Oaklanders, wherever you live, get in touch with your district councilmember!

Oakland relies on a lot of federal grant money to get whatever we can fixed here. Anyone running for mayor had better take this shit seriously.

[#]Oakland folks, I know Barbara Lee isn’t our Congress rep any more, but is there a way to let her know that we could use her help in getting her successor Lateefah Simon to be responsive during this chaos speedrun? I have contacted Mia Bonta to see if she might have an in to Simon’s office.

Fellow #sfba folks in the 12th district, Lateefah Simon’s DC office’s voicemail is full and the House website doesn’t have any local offices shown. Are you having luck getting through? The least she can do is do some sitting down at the Treasury offices and not move until we start getting answers.

My only regular income is Social Security. Musk and his little gang of incelfratboys have their grubby paws all over the Treasury payment system. So I try to contact Padilla and Schiff yet again this morning. Padilla’s voicemail system has a horribly garbled message and once I finally get to the end of it, the mailbox is full. Schiff? Email only and I bet the messages are getting routed to /dev/null. Fellow Californians, what do you see?

I want to thank all the firefighters from outside California who help us in our burning times. Especially the Canadians and the Australians. I see you and your efforts.

Markdown Sockington Prescott is a friend-shaped cat. They are super sweet, and I am pleasantly surprised that they are on my bed with me. They were a formerly feral kitten and this is currently a very extended period of them being willingly Meowmy adjacent. Their slightly younger sibling Yaml (bio cousin void from the same colony) is way more snuggly and fungal. #caturday #catsofmastodon

I've been a registered Democrat since I turned 18, and I just re-registered as no preference. I'll be 65 in August. It isn't worth it any more for me to formally support the Democratic party. And frankly, party identification isn't gonna do shit to protect my queer disabled crone ass from our current speedrun to chaos.

I am putting my new Congress member, Lateefah Simon, and my Senators, Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff on notice. Stop aiding and abetting Trump's wholesale takedown of federal systems. Do not approve nominees. Protect your marginalized constituents before your donors. I'm watching what you all are up to, and whether or not you've got anybody in your offices answering emails or the phones. 🧵 1

Have any of you been able to get through to your Congress person"s offices or Schiff's/Padilla"s offices today? Let me know. All we've gotten here seems to be whole lotta crickets.

We have a neighbor who works for California's state government, and they have been working 7 day weeks since late November. I'd like to think that our federal reps are so busy manning war rooms and fighting all this shit, but I'm jaded.

I know that the current fascist regime would love to force gender assigned at birth markers on trans folks passports even if their birth certificates have been reissued (and make states unable to correct birth certificates). I know that my spouse’s passport was renewed prior to the change of regime and it has a gender marker congruent with their updated birth certificate. 🧵1

I see that the WW2 era manual with techniques for office workers to throw sand in the fascist systems has gone viral. This is most excellent. Snyder’s Against Tyranny is an overview of what can be done, but I’m also interested in hearing about small tasks that ordinary citizens can aid and abet folks subverting the fascists from within. https://www.404media.co/declassified-cia-guide-to-sabotaging-fascism-is-suddenly-viral/

@emma and I totally missed this morning’s earthquake. It’s garbage pickup morning in West #Oakland and the trucks rumble past our bedroom window. #caquake

On a whim, I recorded a brief voice clip of our oldest cat Lizzie (Elizabeth Bennet-Tribble) being super talky. I am excessively diverted by hearing actual Lizzie meowing back when the clip gets replayed. #catsofmastodon

Wajahat Ali, who grew up in my home town, is worth reading about lots of things, but he's really nailing it here. This is what's fueling my musings today about education.

Well, that post I did earlier about #AIslop in fiber arts books took off, heh. I'm not saying that learning these arts from books is necessarily bad. If you don't live anywhere near a retailer that has classes, or don't have anyone in your life that you can learn from (thanks Grandma), you'll be looking for books or videos.

It sure seems like this has taken off fast in the last couple of years, so maybe a good way to cull a bunch of the crap is to sort for pre-2020 publishing dates.
