Over the Christmas holidays, I made quite a bit of progress with the e-ink display project and managed to get most of the board up and running. However, the flash memory and Bluetooth are still missing.
Since I don't have Bluetooth yet, I hardcoded some test images into my code using a converter I wrote that converts a .png file into the format I need for the display and I can fill that data directly into an array. It's not pretty and VS Code is really struggling with the 160.000 lines long array, but it works for testing purposes and it's really cool to see some real images on the display ^^
The first image shows a checkerboard pattern where all the colors of the display can be seen in an alternating pattern. The video shows the transition from a very ugly “Hello world” picture that I drew in Paint to a much better looking picture that my boyfriend @karb drew for me

Got some new stickers as a Christmas gift from my bf @karb (thank you so much again :ms_two_hearts:)
The bases are from @Pulex and Karb colored them fo me, they turned out so nice :3

So @karb had the idea for a sign with changeable text that a suiter can carry around at cons to show other people and I really liked the idea ^^
We decided to use an e-ink display for power efficiency reasons. It was not easy to get my hands on a big enough display, but with the help of some connections I managed to buy this 13.3" e-ink display (roughly A4 size). It also has red as an additional color besides black and white which is kinda nice ^^
Today I finally ordered the board I designed to communicate with the display and I'm quite happy with how it turned out (Karb made a really nice looking logo for it :3). Now I just have to wait for it to arrive before I can solder it and test if it works (and hope that it doesn't destroy the display immediately :blobfoxlaughsweat:)
I'm also thinking about creating a channel (probably on Telegram) to post more details and progress on this project and other projects I'm working on ^^

Last night my tube amp broke down. It was working fine until suddenly the tubes stopped glowing and the high voltage supply stopped working. After some troubleshooting I found the culprit (the main transformer).
It was not easy to find the problem because all the components I tested seemed to be fine. After narrowing down the problem to the transformer itself, I connected it to an autotransformer and slowly increased the voltage. It worked fine until about 60V, after I increased the voltage further, it suddenly started arcing somewhere internally and it basically shorted out (the pair of alligator clips I was using started melting and smoking after just a few seconds :blobfoxlaughsweat:). When I lowered the voltage, it stopped arcing and worked fine again.
The transformer is unfortunately very expensive, so I think the amp will be retiring now. I was planning on building a new, bigger and better one anyway, but it's still sad to see an old project “die” like this

Yesterday I tried printing TPU for the first time and it turned out quite nice. It's a really interesting material, it feels a bit like synthetic leather and is very flexible. You can also apparently control the softness of the material by adjusting the nozzle temperature. I still have to try if that works, but it's definitely nice that I can now also print flexible things :blobfoxhappy:
