[#]WritersCoffeeClub 20: Do any of your stories take place on the sea? In what way?

Hmm, not ON the sea, but I do have a couple of stories that involve the sea in other ways.

Goncharov (1973): Sleep with the Fishes is a cecaelia AU for the fictional film Goncharov 😅 (M/M, tentacle erotica) https://medium.com/@QueenRubyJones/goncharov-1973-sleep-with-the-fishes-820124ecda2c

Mermaid Seduction on the No. 47 involves a mermaid, but it's on a bus (F/F, transformation, secret public sex) https://medium.com/@QueenRubyJones/mermaid-seduction-on-the-number-47-2a6494afd7bd

[#]WritersCoffeeClub 19 Jan: Did you find a way through the maze of traditional publishing to get your book published?

Under my other pen name I have quite a few short stories trad published, but I didn't see the point trying for my erotic and romance work. There are very few traditional presses that publish this anymore and spots for those that do are just too competitive.

I write weird shit. I want to share it, I'd like to make money off it, but I'm under no illusions: it's not mainstream.

when shit needs resisting he doesn't feel terribly bad about doing whatever it takes.

Blake is more of an honest arsehole, but I don't think he has the same compunctions about lying as I do. That said, having just discovered that his whole life has been a lie, he's rather more attached to the truth than he might have been before.

[#]WordWeavers 19 Jan: How honest your MC is when honesty will get them into trouble?

Ohhh, interesting! I'm usually an 'honesty is the best policy' kind of girl, but with Synthetic Agency, I don't know that my MCs would agree.

While generally honest in daily life, Solo has no compunction about lying to get done what needs to be done, especially when it comes to protecting people he cares about. Apart from being designed to function as a spy, humans have royally fucked over his people, and>

I'm not sure I'm gonna manage an update for Synthetic Agency today. I want to, but this is the risk with a creator with a chronic illness. And it's part of why I decided not to introduce a pricing tier above Unconditional Love for now.

Just saw someone say that unsolicited advice is OK if it doesn't come from cis men.

No.

It always sucks. Cis men just do it more because they aren't used to being asked not to.

I will not be debating this and people who try to will be blocked.

there is gold among the dirt of my juvenelia. You grow as a writer as you learn to sift that out of the bollocks.

I see people responding to questions like this saying they don't feel like writers and there are things they daren't try yet and I just want to say: No! You are a writer! Dream big! You are limitless, but you'll only get in your own way and keep yourself small if you don't reach for the things that excite you!

[#]WordWeavers 18 Jan: Have you ever wanted to write a story but lacked the skills for it?

😅 yes, but I didn't know it. And really, I think that's the way you have to operate. They say you need to write a million words of rubbish before you get good and I don't know how you do that if you don't think you're shit hot at least some of the time. 16-year-old me thinking I'm the next Shakespeare, writing the cheesiest damn shit 🤣 But you don't learn what doesn't work if you don't try things out!>

[#]WritersCoffeeClub 18 Jan: Would you serve as a judge for a literary award?

If I were healthy, absolutely! As things stand, it probably wouldn't be a good idea. My reading pace these days is very slow.

[#]WritersCoffeeClub 17 Jan: What are your biggest fears for the writing world in 2025?

That governments will move forward with deregulation of 'AI' & let them strip us of our IPs.

That trad publishing will continue to become a smaller world, dominated by VC funding.

That readers continue to devalue the labour of writing & want everything for free.

That anything with even a little heat will be harder and harder to share.

That censorship and banning, especially of LGBTQ+ works, will increase.

[#]WordWeavers 17 Jan: Do you prefer to write long or short works?

I like both. Most of my stories under this pen name have been short stories or novellas, but I spend a lot of my time imagining longer works. Synthetic Agency will be my first novel-length published work and I'm quite excited about that.

I have so many unfinished novels! Getting sick has made maintaining momentum on longer works hard. But I hope completing one will help me get a sense of how it's done.

Only one page edited, but I think I have to stop now. It's an intense scene, and one affected quite a bit by the changes I'm making, requiring a lot of thought.

[#]WordWeavers 16 Jan: How long is your shortest work?

Well, I have several horny sonnets, so under this name, it's probably one of those. So, like, 140 syllables?
