The movie did an amazing job at translating Amano’s very unique blend of Art Nouveau/Surrealist fantasy art into animation.

I just found out that Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust is getting a remaster in honour of it’s 25 year anniversary. I was at the world premiere of this movie when I was a teenager (at Fantasia fest in Montréal) and it was the best movie experience I ever attended. The energy from the people in the room was electric. Every shot of this film is a stand alone work of art.

I gave a series of workshops to elementary school students yesterday to teach them about making comics. At the end of each sessions, I would improvise a short comic on the board using their prompts, applying what I tought them. The results were really fun, so I thought I would share. (It was very important that the potato had sunglasses)

I remembered #portfolioday early today!

Hi everyone. My name is Sacha, I am a comic artist from Gatineau, Québec. I dabble in game art, storyboards and illustration, however, my main project right now is a historical/YA comic called Seeds of Spring. I have also focused a lot of my energy in 2024 on private commissions for Dnd and TTRPG characters. I am still currently taking commissions as much as possible. I hope to make more personal work in 2025.

My portfolio is: https://cara.app/sacharavenda

My commission info (as well as the ability to buy digital versions of Seeds of Spring) are on my Ko-FI

https://ko-fi.com/sacharavenda66232

I look forward to seeing all the cool portfolios again this month.

I’m not normally a confrontational person, but my favorite donut shop just posted an AI add on social media, and I just left them an angry (yet professional) comment.

I have seriously been hoping to phase out facebook for a while now. I already stopped using instagram a while ago (i hated it anyways, I made a pixelfed instead) but I still get aroud 90% of my commissions from Facebook. I really need to try to branch out and find alternative places to find clients.

Seeds of Spring is a 15 part comic book series based on the real life story of Peter Kropotkin, a former Russian prince who gave up his aristocratic life to become a notable geographer who mapped uncharted parts of Siberia, and one of the leading anarchist thinkers of his time, who escaped Russia's most dreaded prison.

The story is told from the perspective of Naguset, a 17 year old girl who is learning to reconnect with her Mi'kmaq heritage with the help of her grand-parents.

In many ways, both their lives parallell each other.

Physical copies can be purchased from Microcosm Publishing https://microcosmpublishing.com/catalog/zines/10448

I am also selling PDFs of book 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 via my Ko-Fi

I am relieved that my copies of Seeds of Spring 6 have finally made their way to me, now that the Canada Post strike has ended. I worked hard on this book throughout 2024 and I am happy to finally see it printed.

(The book can be ordered from Microcosm Publishing https://microcosmpublishing.com/catalog/zines/14448. And I am also selling PDF’s of book 1 through 5 on my Ko-Fi https://ko-fi.com/sacharavenda66232/shop )

Some book recommendations for next year if you are interested in Canadian Comics. (With a special mention for the last book on the list: The Jellyfish, by Boum, who is a friend of mine :P) https://www.cbc.ca/books/the-best-canadian-comics-of-2024-1.7412623

Here is my art VS artist for this year. (I decided to actually show my face this time)

Everything that I finished this year was either for a commission or Seeds of Spring. I am going ot make it a resolutoin to make more personal work next year.

(I also included that dumb 3AM doodle from earlier this year, because it is still my favorite thing I drew all year :P)

This memory from 4 years ago today just popped up. It was the first actual review that we received for Seeds of Spring one. I was overjoyed when I read this, so I wanted to share again :)

THank you to the good folks at Pulp 716 - Coffee and Comics.

(I see where they are going with the Anastasia comparison, since the first book does feature a ball in the winter palace in St-Petersbourg however, I think a more accurate analogy would be with the show "The Crown" for the historical parts, where we follow a character from childhood to old age. )

For comic fans is the Gatineau or Ottawa areas. I have a table at the RVBDG (Gatineau comic festival) this weekend. I was hoping to debut book 6 of Seeds of Spring, however, they are still in Canada Post limbo.

I will still be selling books 1 through 5 Feel free to come over and say hi if you are in the area :)

In regards to my last 2 boosts:

Those who follow me might have noticed my fondness for the music of @helenbellmusic (thanks to the good folks at @radiofreefedi )

She released a new album last month and I immediately purchased it. (I am looking forward to getting my physical copy once the Canadapost strike ends) She is a brilliant musician and an outstanding poet. Her lyrics really resonate with me. So if you are looking to purchase something for #bandcampfriday I strongly recommend her new album, Five thousand feathers. https://helenbell.bandcamp.com/album/five-thousand-feathers

A lot of people love the movie “A Christmas Story” but aren’t familiar with the radio show on which it was based. (The movie itself is a mix of various Jean Shepherd radio stories, he’s the narrator in the movie) https://youtu.be/bj_nhMIz8Jw?si=Epg8Rk3SbZnJ2vbN

One unpopular art opinion that I have is that I appreciate the use of the uncanny valley. Especially when something needs to look alien or otherworldly. I say this now because the time to watch Christmas movies is upon us and this remains my favorite version of the ghost of Christmas past. https://youtu.be/4zxp5uySmAU?si=pvpbCXmS4ROAezBh
