Bradley and @karen published their thoughts about the TikTok ban yesterday:

"Users (and our government) should instead insist that, to operate in the USA, that ByteDance respect the software rights and freedoms of their users by releasing both the server and App components of the software under a “free and open source” (FOSS) license.

SFC Executive Directory @karen recently sat down with Cory Doctorow @pluralistic to talk about software right to repair, the utility and history of DMCA exemptions, and all kinds of things related to technology and our roles as activists.

A great watch to get inspired and imagine what software freedom means for the future.

SFC filed an amicus brief in the Neo4j suit. The brief provides detailed legal analysis as to why the AGPL holds and is relevant for this case. You can read more as well as the briefing that was filed here:

There are 2 more days in our fundraiser and we've got just under $33,000 left to go on our match goal!

By supporting us you directly help our programs like the amazing work our copyleft compliance team does, like recently funding a winning lawsuit protecting AGPL rights within Germany!

Big news: a recent copyleft lawsuit we funded and supported has concluded with a very positive result for user rights! The suit, brought by a device owner in Germany, resolved with the purchaser receiving the right to repair, modify, and reinstall LGPLed software on their devices. Check out the details at https://sfconservancy.org/news/2025/jan/09/avm-copyleft-lawsuit-resolved-with-install/
