The Republican voter disenfranchisement act ("SAVE Act") would deny married women who changed their names upon marriage, unless they have passports or court orders that reflect the name change.
About 90% of women change their names when they marry, and most don't get court orders indicating the change, and don't have passports.
Besides keeping most married women from voting, the bill would put voter registration under federal control, so a future Republican presidency could void any state ruling it didn't like.
