With all the buzz around nostalgic chat services brought on by projects like retro #AIM server, #MSN escargot, and MattKC's recent video, we figured it was about time we start putting together an official stance on bringing these protocol plugins back in #Pidgin 2.
As such, We'd like to share a rough draft of that stance and get any feedback you all may have. That draft can be found in an issue that was opened about the situation.

As we continue developing of Pidgin 3 we need to decide which protocol we should start working on next. So, we've started a poll on our discourse to get an idea where you the community would like to see us go!
That said, these results are not binding and all of these protocols will require additional work in libpurple to make happen.
But without further ado here's the link https://discourse.imfreedom.org/t/protocols-to-support/234

Someone asked @grimmy to describe pidgin's architecture in 20 words on stream. The result was close to a haiku, so he made it one:
just two abstractions
one user interfaces
other protocols

Heya everyone, I thought I posted this here last night, but apparently I didn't..
I regret to inform you that the Screen Shot Off The Record plugin that we linked to briefly was found to have a key logger and was sending screen shots to unwanted parties.
So if you have this plugin installed, you will want to remove it immediately.
You can see our official post about this at https://pidgin.im/posts/2024-08-malicious-plugin/
We are planning a more indepth post in the near future.

Hey #IRC issues, we see you didn't want to vote on our Discourse so lets try this again here...
When it comes to CTCP requests (VERSION, PING, etc) where would you like to see them displayed?
In this context, a query window is a PRIVMSG between yourself and another user. You could also call this a direct or private message window.
We would of course echo out the response right after the request in whatever window.

Okay #IRC users... We're trying to decide where CTCP querys should be displayed and we're undecided. So we're asking you!
Putting everything in the status window seems okay, but we can see how in channel/query could be nice too. However, we not pretty sure you all hate creating a query for a CTCP message, but maybe not?
Either way, let vote on the poll on our discourse! https://discourse.imfreedom.org/t/poll-irc-ctcp-requests/187
