It's 10 pm. I have got to tune out everything for my own sanity. I did have a brief breakdown today. I got through it. I cried. I yelled. I freaked the fuck out.

Now I am going to read until I fall asleep.

Everyone- take care of yourselves. Even if you only unplug and step back for a couple of hours a day, you need to recharge.

Grabbed a picture of one of our cats! This is Rikki Tikki Tavi. He used to love going outside for most of the day, but he has gotten old and is content sleeping these days, not chasing chipmunks or getting into cat fights. Every once in a while he looks longingly out the window, but it's better for the old man to be inside.

[#]CurrentlyReading Paradise on Fire by Jewell Parker Rhodes

I have read a few books from Jewell Parker Rhodes and definitely recommend her if you like YA or middle grade (apparently she has an adult novel out about the Tulsa Race massacre as well so I will be searching that out).

Just started this so I am not very far in, but it doesn't look like it will take me long to read (as long as I don't get busy).

[#]introduction since I haven't done one in a long while.

I am Cindy. I am the admin and owner of bookstodon.com and woodworking.group

I am a former librarian. I live between northern Michigan and the upper peninsula of Michigan. The woods are my home.

Books are my thing. I post a lot of dog pictures. I have 3 cats, but I can't get pictures of them so they are missing from the feed. I have 2 teenagers.

I pay attention to everything. Sometimes I wish I didn't.

Schools around here are all cancelled tomorrow due to the cold. (My kids go to online school so, unfortunately for them, they will be sitting in class while their friends have the day off.)

If you are living somewhere going through this deep cold, be careful! If you have to go out and about, please make sure to have blankets, gloves, and hats. Be prepared.

Today has been a day, right? I am literally sick to my stomach. But I am going to sit here and read tonight. Almost finished with The Bookshop by Evan Friss. What a delightful read.

Zora just got done barking very angrily at the cats on the TV. Now she's tired. But first she would like to remind you that cats are not your friend. Even if today it's technically Caturday.

I told my husband that once I am finished, I am sure I will be 100% in on opening a bookstore. The introduction was beautiful.

[#]CurrentlyReading Melvin in the Sixth Grade by Dana Johnson included in the book On Girlhood by Glory Edim

Only going to get through this story and maybe the next one tonight. Too tired to stay up much later. But I love the stories in this book so far. I had already read Recitatif by Toni Morrison, but I did like rereading it.

I am seeing a lot of pictures without #AltText right now. Way more than usual. Please, remember to add alt text to your pictures! It is the right thing to do. And many will not boost anything without it so...

I have some fun stuff coming up though. We have a local cat sanctuary that is run by 3 volunteers. All they have is a FB page and they post on the local FB groups for donations and to adopt out cats. We are going to have a meeting next week and see how we can help with their tech needs. First up, a nice website and free hosting. Then we'll look at what other tech needs they have and help out however we can. This will be fun for me and I will get to hang out with a bunch of #cats

She has buried herself into me while I read. It's been a scary day for her with snow falling off the roof and trees being cut down. She needs her mom for comfort and a place to hide her head.

Starting this. Read the wonderful introduction. Have already read a few of the stories included, but looking forward to reading them again. I used to follow the Well Read Black Girl Book Club on Insta back when I was on it years ago. Somehow (probably a Goodreads giveaway) received this as an ARC back in 2021, but never got around to it. Looking forward to the works that are included here. My favorite author, Zora Neale Hurston has an essay included.

Picked this up randomly off my bookshelf. I really appreciated this book. I think everyone should read it and maybe learn a little bit about menstruation. Really quick read. Started it last night, got halfway through before bed, and finished it up today. There is a documentary by the same name that won an Oscar.

I finally threw my hands up after being called a snob and rude. Dude, read whatever you want, enjoy it. But know it for what it is.

My mistake last night and today was thinking that I could have an intellectual conversation about a book, literacy rates in the US, and Lexile levels on a Facebook book group. (I know, I know- I have to be on FB for the local politics which play out on the local groups- I need to be informed right now and that's the only way unfortunately).

People are quite offended when I point out how dismal the US literacy rates are and that Kristin Hannah books are written at a 3rd-5th grade Lexile level.

Make no mistake- his head is on my lap because I have a plate of curly fries on the other leg. He's got his head too close and he knows it. But he's too damn cute to push him away.

I sat this book down thinking it made me feel like Beloved made me feel when I read it so many years ago. It's so important and the tragic subject matter is so beautifully written. If you give it a shot, please take care as it is a very hard read.
