If we want to get people off those platforms it involves engaging with your local community of place, not just moaning about it to your internet friends. It requires building something locally that’s so cool none wants to go on insta any more. And that’s not a software challenge!! It’s a can you organise your neighbours challenge!!

It’s wild how many otherwise smart people on fedi think the reason people use #instagram is because it lets you upload photos, or that the reason they use #facebook is they wanna have somewhere to organise their social life

It’s none of that - it’s because your friends are on it. No one joins social media platforms because of the feature set. Pixelfed and your open source Facebook Pages clone are not an alternative just because they share some of the same features.
