FOSDEM’25 hasn’t even started yet, and I’ve already chatted with several old friends, finally met some people in person that I’ve only met online, and got to know a bunch of new people.

This event is out of this world, there’s simply nothing else like it.

I must admit the Belgian 🍺 helps…

Really looking forward to the amazing #FOSDEM open source meetup next weekend in Brussels. 🍻🍺

I'll be celebrating a 10-year streak in (co-)organizing the HPC, Big Data, and Data Science devroom on Sunday 2 February 2025!

Can you hear the “Oh, interesting…” and “Why haven’t I heard about this before?!” being spoken out loud ?

That’s the volunteers reviewing submissions for #FOSDEM (https://fosdem.org), about two months ahead of the event.

If you’ve never attended FOSDEM, you should consider it, you won’t regret it 🍻

“Looking over the fence” today at Chips JU #EFECS2024 conference in Ghent

Interesting to hear Gustav Kalbe using EuroHPC JU as example of how collaboration in EU can reinvigorate Europe’s competitiveness, and hope that Chips JU will have similar impact on semiconductor manufacturing in Europe

Both these pictures were taken at #SC24 in Atlanta this week.

This event brings like-minded people together, and lets them exchange ideas as well as update each other on the “rival” projects they spend a significant amount of their time on (Environment Modules & Lmod, Spack & EESSI).

It’s all about the community.

On a side quest today in Atlanta, partially inspired by the expensive (late) #SC24 tutorial & workshop registration fees.

Attending the community workshop on “Practical Reproducibility in HPC” that is being organised just a stone throw away from the SC venue.

Very nice atmosphere, with chairs, high tables, and even couches (!) for attendees.

(picture was taken very early)

Looking forward to an interesting day of talks & networking before the full madness of #SC24 hits…

Did some sightseeing in Atlanta yesterday after getting registered for #SC24: visited the Dr. Martin Luther King me memorial site, ran into a huge George Floyd mural , and spent some time in the Joystick Gamebar…

Dear Fediverse,

If you’re heading to Atlanta for #SC24, please consider buying a fridge magnet from the (major) city or country you’re leaving from, to help my 12y-old daughter expand the collection she started recently. I’ll cover the costs of the magnet, of course.

Please reply to let me (and others) know which cities are covered, and so we can plan the handover at SC’24 (I’ll be around Mon-Wed).

She already has a couple of nice ones, including Japanese ones, Montenegro, Marrakech, …

A little less than two weeks from now, I’ll be in Atlanta for #SC24 (Sun-Wed).

It was a very last-minute decision this time…

If you want to meet up and chat about EasyBuild, EESSI, open source software in general, or anything else, let me know!

Really looking forward to dive into the madness of the Supercomputing conference again, it’s been way too long (last time for me was SC’15 in Austin).

Dusted off (you can take that literally) Pichu today, the cluster of four Raspberry Pi 3B+ boards I fiddled with several years ago.

Testing our home WiFi network using the OSU Micro Benchmarks was a lot easier this time around, since all I had to do was install and configure CernVM-FS to get access to EESSI (https://eessi.io), and the necessary binaries and libraries were being downloaded on demand!
