In some countries, Facebook already sells "internet access" … that only connects to facebook.
If the rest of the internet gets declared "dark web" because it's no longer recorded on search engines, then I wonder if they'll attempt that here at some point?
It wouldn't surprise me if in 10 years companies declare any non social-media site "dark" and dangerous to scare people away from the regular internet.

If Google is getting out of the search engine business and using AI instead, then the entire internet outside of social media becomes "The Dark Web"
Some people think "Dark Web" means illegal websites, but "dark" just means undetected, like dark matter. Any website that's not on a search engine.
In the year 2000, that was just the normal internet. And if you turn off JavaScript, any website just becomes a text file with pictures on it… Also like the year 2000.

Part of me will always live in 1998. The information super-highway is still a world of endless possibilities, where anybody can have their own website. If I don't like one website, I can just visit a different one today, or even make my own. A social media site is still only one website among billions. The internet is so much bigger. Each of us makes it bigger. The cyberspace utopia lives in my heart.
