Hi fedi! My dear friend Dmitri needs a hysterectomy - he's overdue, for his health and for his safety as a trans man in a southern state. I don't have to tell you the risks of this coming election in the US.
Dmitri is loved by family, his partners, his many friends, and his UU congregation. Unfortunately his insurance is not generous, with a very high deductible, and he's underpaid as an hourly, very hard worker in veterinary medicine. Another friend of his organized a GoFundMe for the expected cost of care plus ~6 weeks of lost income. Any extra will be donated to good causes, such as Trans Lifeline!

[#]Trans guys and transmasc folk of fedi: a friend is getting a hysterectomy soon. He's going to be out for the usual amount of time, and people at that workplace are very much in the know with each other's stuff. He is not out as trans to most of his coworkers (as far as they know he's just another cis dude) and prefers to keep it that way.
He's aware that legally the employer doesn't have to know, but because of the workplace dynamics he wants to be able to give coworkers something more than a vague "surgery". So: what would you offer as a plausible alternative that doesn't raise more concerns (e.g. it isn't cancer, long-term whatever, just a common benign medical need type deal).
I suggested making this post and he was all for it. Send your ideas please!
