I absolutely oppose the way Apple manages the App Store. Almost all of it - almost. But that’s also where it ends for me.

Like the latest “issue” with Spotify complaining about volume rockers, that’s Apple acting within their right to not make their products as great as they could be. Not illegal.

@gruber Regarding the Japan rules on smartphones targeting US companies but not Sony (ie game consoles), is better explained by volume and importance than protectionism. Sony doesn’t have a smartphone OS, so what are they protecting?

PS4 lifetime sales worldwide are about 117m units.

Smartphones currently active in Japan are about 107m units.

Game consoles are niche hobby items in the grand scheme of things. Everyone has a smartphone, and it’s the most important device to most people.
