Was a bit worried my Schlumbergera wasn't going to produce flowers this yr. While watering it yesterday I noticed new (& some older👇, 🤷‍♂️) buds that I didn't notice previously. This will be 4 yrs in a row for flowers so it seems as if it's still happy & thriving 👍

My myrtle topiary is still a work in progress. I hacked it back severely (prolly too much) at the beginning a few yrs ago w/o much planning. I just I wanted it to look like a mini tree 🤷‍♂️. It was very forgiving & I think it's starting to take shape. Really tempted to take off that lowest branch but I'll be patient.

Crappy iPhone photo of the view out my window this morning. Darn it, I keep missing these incredible sunrise opportunities this winter. I get to enjoy the view while I'm on the computron but there's nothing like being on the river with an open sky capturing the colors develop and change.

Sweat bee on magenta zinnia.

I love these zinnias (likely California giant variety). They're gorgeous in my garden and they really pop in macro photos 👍.

My very 1st eagle flight photo of the yr! The structures in the background are the University of Iowa Power Plant's stacks/buildings. There's also a small power dam there too which is why the eagles hang out there.

Felt better yesterday so donned a mask & walked to the river to see if I could find some eagles. Had to go a bit further south than usual but found a 1/2 mile stretch w/ 6-7 including this gorgeous creature. My 1st eagle pics of the year 👍

I get my news fix elsewhere and use SM to share/view photography. Not surprisingly, it looks as though the US/World political situation is bleeding into my feed even though I try to keep it at bay. It's not an issue because I can always scroll on by.

However, that level of justified anger sometimes bleeds into everything which is totally understandable. Just a heads up though that if it winds up in my replies it's not going to be well met & most likely the reply will be ignored.

We've many hawks in the Iowa City/Coralville area. This red-tailed was hanging out next to the local elementary school. I've located one hawk's nest but they don't typically use the same nest every yr. Would love to see an active nest but no luck so far.

I'm always amazed by the ability of large waterfowl to land on a dime in the middle of other birds. Seems like it should be a lot harder than they make it out to be but that what experts do.

Despite the large #s of native common grackles that are present yr round in Iowa, I haven't had many chances to 📷 them. The grackles hereabouts tend to be pretty shy (smart birds). This is from last year.

Been nearly a week since I started feeling crappy & still feeling crappy. I'm flu/COVID vaccinated. Whatever I got sucks. Haven't been able to get out & photograph the winter species I love like dark-eyed juncos. This is from 2022.
