Just saw an audiologist for #tinnitus that I developed when I had #COVID and they didn't seem to know that COVID can cause tinnitus and other hearing issues. I already knew there was probably nothing they could do about it, and it honestly doesn't bother me most of the time, but it's just disappointing to not feel validated by a doctor.
The good news is I don't have measurable hearing loss!

@futurebird there is some very cool research on microbially ripened teas like puer, in particular comparing traditional "raw" sheng puer microbes to shu puer which is ripened rapidly through a wet piling process invented in the 70s to mimick aged sheng puer. IIRC, the fungal, but not bacterial, community of really old sheng puer is similar to that of shu puer. (Can't find the paper right now)

I hate that this is in an #MDPI journal, but I'm still excited to read this! Moving to the top of my pile of #tea papers to read: https://www.mdpi.com/2075-1729/15/1/133

It's definitely not squamous cell carcinoma (or there would be an obvious tumor by now), but there still is a chance it is another slower growing cancer. Hopefully just an infected tooth and everything will heal up with antibiotics.

Huckleberry is 16 or 17 and this is the second time a vet has told us he is dying and he has actually turned out to be OK. In November, his regular vet saw him and I mentioned he had bad breath. She took a look in his mouth and told us he very likely had oral squamous cell carcinoma—a rapidly growing destructive cancer–and that there was nothing we could do. A month later and he still seemed about the same, so we took him to the dentist and they said he probably just has a rotten tooth!

This elderly baby is off to a veterinary dentist this morning for a high risk tooth extraction. Send healing vibes please!

Tagging and uploading music is annoying, but was a great distraction on Monday and kept me from getting too sucked into the doomscrolling

I think I'm just about done ("done") with my winter break nerd project of putting my #music on #Navidrome—an open source music streaming platform. Overall it was fun, and not too frustrating. I'll do a blog post eventually!
The most fun part was re-discovering old, weird music in my collection. For example, this old YACHT song from back when it was just Jona Bechtolt and he performed weird fun electronic music in my friend's living room in college:

Tip: use the {usethis} #rstats package to set up a global .gitignore (as suggested by this post) with usethis::git_vaccinate()

My end-of-break nerd project is setting up some kind of self-hosted music streaming service to start getting away from Spotify. Currently looking at #navidrome as a good option. I'm excited, but not looking forward to going back to the old ways of managing metadata manually—seems like it could be a pain.

How real is the animosity between local police and the FBI that is always depicted in movies? Like, why do the cops care if the Feds take over an investigation? Why are the feds always so smug about it?

{geotargets} now has a getting started vignette!

{geotargets} is an :rstats: package that helps you use geospatial packages like {terra} in your {targets} pipelines. @njtierney and I created it to help with our own work and we hope it can help you too!

Didn't know what to do with myself this morning, so I took some time to brew some #tea. Drinking this "truly f-ing ridiculous" ripe puer with aged tangerine peel packed in bamboo from white2tea.
