Very easy to switch from WhatsApp to Signal, and dozens of friends have followed suit. Do it! https://signal.org/

Remember, this present chaos, which is a fraction of what's going to be unleashed, all comes down to this, from years back. And yes, Bannon did say 'flood the zone with shit'. And now it's the whole world. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2020/1/16/20991816/impeachment-trial-trump-bannon-misinformation

Not much happens on here, but Bluesky is disappointing because quite a few musicians and musical organisations turned up there, do little and turn out to be devoting most of their time still to Xitter. Including the online arts site for which I'm classical music and opera editor, shame on them.

Cremona's Duomo - one of the most glorious facades in Italy - and Baptistery. Unexpected for what is quite a small town. Time for the full seasonals now.

What a disgrace. This obsession with 'growing our economy' is untenable anyway, but that it should be in association with bloody-handed regimes makes it simply appalling. For every good deed this government achieves, it takes two paces back with bad or uncaring ones. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2024/dec/09/keir-starmer-says-saudi-arabia-trip-fulfils-number-one-mission-to-grow-uk-economy

Miraculously, I made it to my 93 year old ma's care home (and back), giving a YouTube Xmas concert which delighted some of the residents.

Prog: Bach Xmas Oratorio, opening ch (Harnoncout); Brahms as below; Tchaik Nutcracker Ov (arr. Lavrova for vln and piano), sequence (Rotterdam Phil/YNS), Pas de Deux (Nunez, Muntagirov); Berlioz Shepherds' Farewell (OdP/Conlon); In Dulce Jubilo (KCC); Rimsky-Korsakov Xmas Eve sequence (Loy production) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZetulhXMMg

Blotting my nice image on Bluesky by telling folk that staying on Twitter is morally indefensible. So many still don't get it. The ego intrudes. But since I actually got four people to close their accounts so far, I think my zeal is not misplaced. Any thoughts? (Resounding silence ensue).

Bluesky has become a bit of nightmare right now, with all sorts of unwanted dodgy folk following me. Of course if I find anything in common, I follow. But the porno babes, bitcoin merchants and new age hard-sellers I block. Hopefully it's just a phase.

Look who came to the fourth of my Opera in Depth classes on Smetana's 'Libuše' - none other than Royal Opera Music Director in waiting Jakub Hrůša. I find it increasingly difficult not to have tears in my eyes talking about this masterpiece, and he expressed his feelings about it so eloquently. The magnificent concert performance he conducted in Litomyšl should be released on CD at some point.

Big deal re Russia's ban on cabinet ministers. Which of them would have wanted to go to that totalitarian hell? But can't we now kick out the poisonous toad still squatting at the Russian Embassy on Notting Hill Gate?

Well. The notice I put up telling folk I'd also signed up to Bluesky and asking how to link got ZERO answers. As so often on here. You can see why I might drift away, though I like this for info on world news. Useless for things musical.

More horror in Russia. Murderers, paedophiles and cannibals released to join the Russian army are murdering their own people. Vitaly Shevchenko is such a credit to the BBC World Service - I heard this report on the radio first - and BBC News. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1e7vl01gngo

This is not responsible reporting. What were his views about the war? If there is no possibility of his being outspokenly anti-Putler, then the article needs to state that. Too many Russians 'fall' out of buildings. https://www.theguardian.com/stage/2024/nov/18/vladimir-shklyarov-russian-ballet-star-dies-aged-39-after-falling-from-building

If you think drag is silly and pointless, and even if you just need a show of humanity (and who doesn't right now?), please watch this one episode of RuPaul's Drag Race UK Season 6. The makeover challenge gets the queens to drag up family members and join them on the runway. The adorable mums who support their sons and always have are even slightly overshadowed by the 78 year old dad of an old-school trouper. I challenge you to remain stony-faced when he speaks. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0024z6z/rupauls-drag-race-uk-series-6-episode-8
