I added a check box and am calling the salience filtering “Subject Focus," but I'm not sure if this is the best label.
Side note: Salience handles things like pet faces, where portrait detection fails.

There’s a balance between making an image “readable” (e.g., a woman wearing a hat, walking a dog), omitting unnecessary information (tree details, etc.), communicating with economy (shapes for the dog’s eyes, nose, and tail), and “expressiveness” (not overworked).

I’m running a salience-detection filter and enhancing the areas of interest in the image. The subject is sharper, and everything else stays painterly.
The before-after may be too subtle for the iOS app, but it makes a real improvement. These images have the enhancement enabled.

I can’t release the update as a new, separate app because doing so would jeopardize my current App Store features. I also don’t want to switch to a subscription model. The best option at the moment seems to be an optional IAP (styles).
