Speaking of, after 8 months on @flathub, Keypunch has passed 20k downloads! There are of course apps with way more than that, but it means a lot to me that the app is likely helping thousands of people improve their typing. Oh, and it also sounds impressive when I tell my uninitiated friends about it 🤭

Keypunch was super easy to integrate with Discord's rich presence feature because it has so many game-like characteristics. However, I didn't expect that people would put it in, like, their actual video game libraries, until someone recently asked if I could upload some Keypunch assets to SteamGridDB and Lutris. So, um, here you go, I guess! Relevant assets have been submitted for review on their respective sites.

If I could just link to a simplified, non-technical page that quickly let people set up an account and report a bug / make a suggestion in 2 minutes, which would then result in actual issues in my projects tied to real accounts, I'd be a lot more convinced to migrate to e.g. Codeberg.

Re. the last point of "being where the people are", that's mainly a problem when trying to make it easy to report bugs. I think it's a huge issue that everybody needs to go through the actual code hosting sites to create issues in projects hosted on them, using the same interface that developers use for managing entire projects. Imagine having to walk through the kitchen of a large restaurant to make the staff aware of a problem with your meal.

There are a lot of bad things to say about #GitHub :github: at the moment, but as a tool I find it so much more ergonomic than #GitLab :gitlab: that I honestly can't see myself moving my authored apps to GNOME's GitLab instance anytime soon. I'm watching #Codeberg :codeberg: and its #Forgejo :forgejo: project with great interest, but at the same time I'd like to have a presence where most of my apps' technicallly inclined audience actually is, you know? 🥲

Weblate's warnings can be so tedious sometimes. Yes, "type" (the noun) in English is written "type" in Norwegian as well, and "Doner" happens to be the correct translation for multiple different strings. I don't need to be warned about each individual case of this happening.

Kudos to @nokyan for actually taking a sane stance when being asked to add an in-app dark mode toggle to his app. I wish more app developers did this. System-wide things like dark mode should be smoothly managed by our systems, not each individual app and website we run on them. If we give in to the pressure to accomodate bad systems, we’ll keep struggling with bad systems for the foreseeable future.

As someone who frequently makes small contributions to many different repositories, Builder's git clone workflow is soooo nicely executed. It's super satisfying to just paste a link, click a button, wait a few seconds, and boom, have Builder open my local clone on the spot, ready to be worked on.

Because of the permissions required to communicate with Discord, I think it will take a little longer than usual for this to be available on Flathub, but once it is, you can get it from there as usual!

Libadwaita's new adaptive testing feature has motivated me to finally fix Keypunch's mobile layout! The configuration dropdowns are now moved down to the text view on narrow screen sizes. It was pretty easy to accomplish with the new multi-layout widgetry. Amazing how far we've come on the adaptivity road now.

Takeaway from today’s events: as long as something is not literally illegal to do, you cannot possibly be criticized for it. Good to know.

I'll avoid going on an endless rant, because I obviously know everyone involved in this means well, but I will say that this is a prime example of how the desire by some people to have granular control over every little aspect of their software or work around shitty underlying systems with preferences, tends to undermine efforts to make things ”just work“ .
