First hangover today, since—I think—the day after the 2008 election??

Yesterday I discovered my favorite port—something I used to buy, regularly, when I lived in San Francisco—in my semi-rural Oregon supermarket. 3 sweet, robust, phenomenally delicious glasses.

Probably the first wine I've had, since last winter. About to turn 51. Head is pounding.

All in al, life is good. :)

Scientific American magazine has endorsed Harris for President. Only the second time in its +100yr lifespan, that its made a Presidential endorsement. If that doesn't underscore some urgency, I dunno what else could.

Saw a wonderful picture just now, of a Haitian restaurant in Springfield, Ohio packed with happy customers eating delicious food and enjoying their community.

Not making headlines: The Midwest is pretty dang packed with awesome people that will not tolerate hateful BS about our neighbors. No matter their immigration status, place of birth, or any other petty nonsense. Good people are just good people.

Took a full truck-load of stuff to the dump, then one to Goodwill, today. Got to drop our old kitchen sink into an empty dumpster from 12' above, and watch it smash into explosive bits at the bottom.

Now, unreasonably excited to clean the garage. #AdulthoodGothic

Nice outrage break from politics, yesterday, with Beyoncé's snub from the CMA awards taking over my hyperactive brain.

Wishing more positive stuff would get stuck on my brain's activity-loop—though grateful that at least fun design problems make it there often enough.

Kids that commit mass shootings are not monsters. They are malnurtered. They have been failed by all of society, but most critically by their parents.

Hearing public figures call the kid in Georgia "A Monster" is infuriating. Reading about Ethan Crumbley's parents refusing to release a social worker's account of their home, is just a continuation of the narcissism and neglect that nurtured a kid who murders, in the first place.

Can America really NOT see epic selfishness as the problem?!

Re-watching the fantastic "Go home data, you're drunk" talk by Dani Malik at Interaction 15. Amusingly, Dani even includes early instances of AI in her talk (but they didn't call it AI). 9 years later it has held-up, brilliantly.

At the supermarket. On the overhead music, plays a cover of "What About Love" by Heart. Sensitive ponytail guy with an upbeat voice, on a ukelele, finger-snapping, rhythmic light clapping, and a feel-good chorus. The original was a horrific record label crime against the mighty Wilson Sisters; and this.

It's now been about 2 weeks since our involuntary kitchen remodel was completed. Despite the boujee countertop, cabinets that finally make sense, epic new sink and faucet, the one feature that continues to marvel me: having a stove with a functional clock.

Something I never, ever cared about, before—but still stands-out as a "Woah!" marker of adulting.

The burners function far better than the old one. Water boils in a few minutes, not many. The oven is self-cleaning. But: OMG THE CLOCK WORKS!

Just had the most delicious vegan cheesburger, made and served by sexworkers from a food cart. In Portland. Which, I think is possibly the most Portland thing, ever! #xoxofest

Reading an article about SFPD acquiring a drone fleet. In the article, the chief claims it'll help reduce auto thefts.

Guys... my truck was stolen 2x. The second time, the folks at impound said my truck's disablement represented the work of a known ring. So I took the bus to Bryant street. Went to the auto theft squad room. Asked if they wanted to dust for prints before I took it home. They just stared at me with dead faces, then laughed.

Drones aren't a solution to their problems.

Between Simone Biles' advocacy for mental health as a non-negotiable imperative for athletes and pommel-horse guy's eye condition, I'm loving the openness and sharing of vulnerabilities, in this Olympics.

Also, the comradery of athletes across nations, our world SO needs right now.

I'm such a dork for the Olympics, and the joy and love for pushing each other to push ourselves to be our best, is exactly why. <3

Last night's Men's Gymnastics finals at the Olympics, along with the White Dudes For Harris activity on teh socials, was like a flood of healthy manlove.

Men coming together in all their vulnerability, joy, chutzpah and earned skills—and wanting to share, to uplift one another and the world beyond.

So much optimism for humanity, today!

Ageism and anti-intellectualism are no match to racism or sexism.

Qualifications to lead aren't driving the 2024 election; pent-up angst, media perception, and scapegoating, are. Not to throw cold water onto today's party.
