Wow - https://react-scan.com/ is not just incredibly useful for identifying performance bottlenecks in your React apps, but also looks awesome 😃

Collaboration spaces on https://liiive.now normally time out after 24hrs (unless you switch them to permanent storage). In early January, you could actually just keep your tab open to extend storage indefinitely. Fun fact: there is still ONE USER who has kept their computer on & their tab open since then 🙂

Quick Q to the hive mind: is anybody using the Getty Reconciliation API (successfully...)?

I don't seem to get a response back, except for the default service metadata. I don't think it's my query, since the same query works just fine against the Wikidata endpoint. 🤷‍♂️

📢 More than 300 medieval manuscripts from the Bibliotheca Vossiana now available in open access (and as #IIIF!). Via @litteracarolina https://mastodon.online/@litteracarolina/113885699191793309

You can find #IIIF manifest links for items if you scroll waaaaay down to the bottom. Works great with liiive :-) I posted a sample here: https://liiive.now/q3wju1pcaubs

One of those small enhancements that still feel big (to a dev nerd like me 🙂): #IMMARKUS now supports cropping snippets from IIIF 'Simple Image' sources without an Image Service. Perfect for working with basic manifests!

Thinking about a new feature for https://liiive.now: support for plain image links. Paste a JPEG URL, annotate it as usual, and grab a basic IIIF manifest—similar to the "Simple Image" example in the #IIIF cookbook. Thoughts?

Phew! The biggest update to #IMMARKUS yet is here: Version 0.7.0 is out for testing—and it adds nothing less than #IIIF support! 🚀

New to IMMARKUS? It’s an open source scholarly tool for semantic image annotation, combining a multi-image annotation workbench, ontology builder, and a knowledge graph exploration interface.

Exciting work from my former colleagues at the Austrian Institute of Technology! On Jan 20, they’ll present the ONiT-Explorer, an app for exploring 22,000 images extracted from 16th–19th century travelogues at the Austrian National Library. Wine will be served to in-person guests only. But you can probably bring your own for the Zoom stream. https://onit.oeaw.ac.at/?p=1505

It’s great to see more websites using #IIIF and prominently displaying "Copy manifest URL" links. ❤️ But while building https://liiive.now, I noticed something surprising: many sites block outside use despite showing the link (due to missing CORS settings).

It’s likely unintentional and suggests external re-use remains uncommon—even with content from major institutions. There’s still work ahead!

In other news: our open source semantic image annotation tool #IMMARKUS is also receiving an upgrade–with #IIIF support! See https://github.com/rsimon/immarkus/wiki to learn all about IMMARKUS

I just got notified that some institutional site filters seem to block https://liiive.now for being adware/spam. I’m working on getting that fixed. Not sure what the previous domain owners were up to. (Not scholars, I’m guessing.) Rest assured—you’re annotating safely, securely, and in the best company on liiive: the global DH crowd! 🙂

Happy to see the first #liiive users create annotation rooms with permanent storage–which suggests things are working as they should 😉

Haven't tried liiive yet? Realtime collaborative annotation for #IIIF images starts here: https://liiive.now

Want to add instant annotation functionality to your IIIF objects? Add an "Open in liiive" link by appending the manifest URL as a query parameter:

https://liiive.now?iiif-content={manifest-url}

Each click creates a new room where users can collaborate in real-time. 🚀

Today I'm launching #liiive: a new IIIF viewer that puts real-time collaboration front and center. View, annotate, and discuss together as if you're in the same room. Just paste a manifest URL and go! https://liiive.now 🎄 #DigitalHumanities #IIIF #DH #ArtHistory #Museums

Phew... all those "small final changes" before launching #liiive - my collaborative #IIIF annotation tool - really add up.

Changed the backend tech stack. Tweaked the data model for more robust concurrent editing. Added various convenience features and UI enhancements... Not done yet. But still aiming to launch the basic version end of this month. 🤞
