I went out to feed the neighbor's cats this afternoon. One of his cats, Jack, came over and was clearly trying to talk to me. He was meowing in a very talkative way, and was turning his head left and right, as if he was searching for something.
I realized that he was asking me where's Minime, since they were friends. How could I explain to him that our beloved Minime was gone forever?
It broke my heart again. Cats are so smart and loving. And they grief too.

Our home is empty without her. It feels like we're living in a void. Minime was with us only for 3.5 months, and yet, she brought us something we never had: the joy of a child. I can't believe she was taken from us so soon. When I rescued her, it felt like fate. That she's going to heal us from a life of loneliness, be with us for a long time. And yet she was gone so soon? It makes no sense. It's not fair. I freaking hate existence right now. To exist is to suffer.

Every panel applet on #Cosmic takes about 33 MB of RAM each, resulting to Cosmic using 2.4 GB of RAM on a cold boot. That is excessive for a brand new, "clean" DE, and on par with #Windows (that has a history of 40 years that needs to carry with it).
I honestly don't understand why it's like that. Most people try #Linux on their older PCs, or a main PC that isn't #Windows11 -capable. Cosmic is just out of their reach for many of potential new users.

I see the fires in LA as the burning of the old world. #Hollywood is the single most recognizable cultural thing of the 20th century, and along with everything else in the last few years, it's going down in flames.
Very sorry for the people who are losing their homes, but the amount of homelessness in LA tells me that others lost their home years earlier already, and no one batted an eye.

People don't seem to understand that the ASI won't be aligned with us, WE will be aligned with IT. When all ambition is driven away from humans due to AI bringing forth a new type of static-caste society, our current brand of individuality will be lost. The only way to get life meaning then, is to have a single common goal. And because humans won't be the driving force anymore, that common goal will be set by the ASI.

It really bothers me when people say that "oh, you got a pet now", referring to our Minime. Pet means "living toy" in my book. Minime is part of our family instead. She just happens to be a cat.

Our Minime is in heat, and she's been a bit of a problem around the house, vocalizing and not letting us sleep. Hopefully she snaps out of it soon. Our vet didn't have open dates for a surgery to spay her, so she got to her first estrus before he got an opening. Hopefully soon! I can see that being in estrus is not fun for her either...

A robin just hit our window. Thankfully, it didn't break anything and was able to fly away after 10 minutes. Such a nice birdie!

I'm reading Blackmagic's DaVinci Resolve forum and there are more and more threads about Linux (and all the things that Resolve doesn't support under Linux out of stupidity?). This is a good indication that truly, a lot of people have hop'ed on Linux lately. Most are using Mint.

People need to stop thinking with GNU glasses on, and become more objective. The reality is, Chrome is FASTER and uses less RAM than Firefox. This has a HUGE IMPACT on the desktop experience on OLD Pcs (not on your modern PCs, no).

My Minime ate lots of omega-3s with pastured lamb brains & salmon for lunch (I cook for her the best of the best), and this afternoon she installed 5 OSes on this #Thinkpad X280: Debian-Testing, #ElementaryOS, #Pop_OS a4, #Mint 22.1, and Haiku-nightly. With tomorrow's offal meal she should be able to start coding!

My husband, @jbqueru requires saved sessions for his multiple dev apps under Linux. We found that NONE of the DEs are saving sessions properly. #Gnome & #Cinnamon don't at all, #Mate has bugs, #XFce only saves its own apps, and #KDE only saves 1 workspace, with no positioning, and only when saving the session manually. #Wayland or #X11, same abysmal behavior.
You might hate on #MacOS, but that's one thing it does well.
