MefiWiki's been getting hit by spam bots for a couple of weeks now, sometimes intensely enough that it was sporadically unavailable, like an hour or two ago.

I think we're in better shape now. Instead of whack-a-mole with individual accounts and IP addresses, I notified and blocked a Canadian server company that was hosting the bots.

Just a dumb fact-check here. If I'm trying to troubleshoot Multi-Factor Auth with someone, and they're like "Authy? What's that? I dunno if that's as compatible with Google Authenticator as you seem to think it is, maybe an update broke compatibility," uh.

Am I the bozo here?

Should I just say I'm using Google Authenticator?

[#]Linux #Kernel peeps. I've hit an odd CIFS corruption issue, in certain contexts, on ARM, dependent on the Linux kernel version. I have a repeatable test. It looks like:

• Debian 11, bullseye, kernel 6.1: ok
• Debian 12, bookworm, kernel 6.6: impacted.
• v6.10: ok

Bug reporting options I know:

• it's a port of Debian, so Debian proper isn't interested in the bug report
• the Raspberry Pi kernel peeps ... I'm stepping away from that conversation for now
• reporting Linux regressions - I think I need to be far more specific first

I'm planning to test the mainline kernel, here, though I haven't noted significant differences from what Debian distributed. What's most useful here?

• bisecting what broke between 6.1 and 6.6 - about 78k commits
• bisecting the fix between 6.6 and 6.10 - about 64k commits
• survey the major branches - 6.1, 6.2, ... 6.10

Each iteration can take hours, and these aren't fully unattended, so, I can't be too extensive, here.
