Hi folks, N6ARA Electronics has been affected by the strong winds and fires in Los Angeles this week. While everyone is safe and our homes are still standing, we have been without power for over 48 hours now. All pending orders are currently on hold. Updates to come.

Rev B of the TinyGawant antenna has arrived! New features include a switch for operating between 20-10m and 40-30m, and an integrated SWR indicator. Initial results showed it tunes across all bands (yay!), but the SWR meter didn’t work on the first try. After probing the LED, I discovery that I had installed a Zener diode instead of a Schottky diode across the bridge! After replacing it with the correct part, the SWR light worked as expected!

Next up: Field Test!

Experimenting with some radial winder designs. Figured it might be fun to optimize the volume of four separate winders into one. Going to take this out to the field to see if it's any easier or better to use than the separate winders have I have.

Incredibly stunning day on top of W6/SC-311! Activated with Mark KD7DTS, Di KO6BTM, and Ormoo the cat. Had a chance to finally use my KH1 Ashi Paddle 45 given to me by @7L4WVU during my recent visit to Japan. This paddle is awesome!!

🇯🇵 JJ0XMS ✈️ N6ARA 🇺🇸

What an amazing trip! Japan is such a wonderful country to visit. I feel very fortunate to have had a chance to activate 2 SOTA summits and 10 POTA parks throughout my stay. Was great to meet Waka-San JG0AWE and to activate with Tad-san 7L4WVU again :) See you next time!

PS - Sorry to the Mastodon crowd for forgetting to post alerts! I plan to step up my presence here more in the future.

Weather in Los Angeles finally cleared up for a change! Had a great hike up to Josephine Peak (W6/CT-025). Activated above a sea of clouds! 10m was brutal, but got a few good QSOs and S2S’s in the log. Katsu for dinner was the perfect way to cap the day.

One of the radio shops had a bunch of homebrew rigs for sale. The star item, IMHO, is the 47.1GHz transverter. Where else would you find this?!

Finally got to visit Akihabara! First stop Rocket Ham Radio and few other radio shops. My favorite find was a poster next to all the antennas showing how to install them at your QTH!

Had a great time activating POTA JA-1255 today under my call JJ0XMS and meeting @7L4WVU! Learned that 40m in Japan is VERY busy. The pile up on 7.005MHz was tough with jet lag and JA calls, but an absolute thrill!

SRI I couldn’t stay longer to work more stations! I might activate POTA again tomorrow, but SOTA on Jan 29 @ 01:00z for sure!
