For folks interested/concerned with the impact of satellites upon #astronomy (and the whole raft of issues around it), this survey from 3S Northumbria would probably like your input:

Since I'm the biggest fan of the #RNLI and also apparently old enough to commission cushions (oh yes), here's 17-29 RNLB Richard Cox Scott which is retiring this month. #lifeboats

You might think I'm old, but seriously - have you even tried sitting in a comfy armchair wrapped in a blanket and having a nap? It's phenomenal. #fomo

Today's #AdventOfCode part1 was again a surprisingly fast success (anonymous variables in #perl ftw) in private leaderboard, but also weirdly easy which is always a red flag for part2. I'll come back to that later, but meanwhile will make a hardware design for the number generator (#verilog), and will also have the 10yo learn how to solve it (#python). Thanks a lot to @ericwastl for not ruining Sunday with a 3d falling grid problem!

Some people make amazing visualisations of their #AdventOfCode solutions, using methods I can only vaguely fathom. As my own contribution to the genre of alternative puzzle output, here's a non-poem created by grepping out my code comments from yesterday.

Today's #AdventOfCode part 2 felt impossible and unfair until I looked back at the led segment puzzles from a couple of years back. The question is not so much about where the robots are, as 'how would @ericwastl draw a tree'? Loved it in the end!

Rather than yet attempt #AdventOfCode day 9 part 2 (in #perl) am working with a child on #micropython bar graph challenge from The Pi Hut's "Maker Advent Calendar". It is superbly prepared and thought through (unlike my AoC code). It works! (unlike my AoC first time). Did i put a semicolon at the end of a micropython line? Fosho, many times. #raspberrypi

Ever had to make a Theory of Change (ToC) diagram and been unsure whether everyone else understands the challenge/opportunity in the same way? My view is that ToC is not fun or insightful. Today I was inspired by my co-facilitators to figure out how to develop Theory of Change in Lego(R) SeriousPlay(R).

This is our jam: making physical metaphors of strategic issues, analysing and sharing them to transform outcomes.

I'd like to help one more team before the end of the year...

[#]Protip: those packets of instant noodles from afar that sit together colourfully, betwixt the pasta sauce and the overlarge bottles of oil, that have stylised print in languages unfamiliar and offering no clues whatsoever what flavour they are going to pretend to resemble... those things, right - you can stick them in a sandwich and nobody can stop you.

You're welcome.

For those that partake: you have about 58 kilominutes and change left before #AdventOfCode kicks in to break your schedule, your sleep, your relationships, your repo, your breakfast, your satisfaction with your tools, your favourite workchair, your misplaced belief that you can-absolutely-do-this-without-recursion-there-must-be-another-way, and the rest.

For everyone else, enjoy your December when it comes.

I can't wait to see what @ericwastl has come up with...

On a day off at the end of my second week of work since March. Trying to reflect on anything but also what I have been doing. Failing so far, but it has served to affirm what I already knew: I love the north and the cold. It is simple, peaceful, and welcoming. I think in a former life i might have been a reindeer, or more likely some forest rodent, or even more likely still, a small but indefatigable rock.

of course i do not like stereotypes, but here are two very #swedish things. (i) IKEA (ii) sitting naked in a properly hot sauna with a beer, looking at the stars, surrounded by old people telling jokes about the aftermarket for digging machines.

There is no IKEA in Kiruna, so now you know what my evening has been like.

In 48 hours I'm going to be in Barcelona for a couple of days of meetings in an attempt to get a job. I used to live and work there, but a lot has changed in 10 years and I'm expecting to be sad and disappointed about a lot of things. Not least, brexshit: if I'd known that was coming I never would have left.

I don't think I have enough years left in this world to figure out a way to not loathe London. Physically, metaphorically, geographically, symbolically, linguistically, thermally, hygienically, politically, economically, and acoustically.

London.

Some maps are beautiful, and some maps are not. Some forests are a joy to run through, and some are not. Being in something like this makes me feel like I'm 19 again, even if the terrain doesn't go by so quickly ;) - this week's #orienteering training course at Måttsund.

i'm about to teach a new course, in an emergency, overseas.

if i ask students to code something up in C/C++, what's the best way for me to automatically check if it meets MISRA spec, with enough feedback to give pointers about what needs attention? cppcheck?
