A lesson from history, for those who are not already familiar:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatbot#Eliza
Invented in 1966, ELIZA was still cool in the 1970s, but by the 1980s had become an amusement. ELIZA talking to PARRY was doubly amusing. The Bell Labs βinsult serverβ phoning the VP for Research, via the Bell Labs text-to-speech system was triply amusing but is, alas, subject to an NDA. And might be just apocryphal.

For those who like #runic and #OldEnglish / #AngloSaxon
When I was a student, our Professor (who taught us Anglo-Saxon) organised an annual summer trip to St Gregory's Minster, Kirkdale, N. Yorkshire, where there is an old sundial carved over the door. The Anglian inscription retains a number of runic letters: αΉα¨αα¦
I came across an old postcard of it and give here a new transcription too. There are a couple of small errors in the postcard, corrected in AltText

Met up with some old friends for a Sunday afternoon walk near Speen, Berkshire, so made it my #NewYearPlantHunt. Spotted 9 species in flower: Wild carrot, Nipplewort (pictured), Garlic mustard, Wood avens, Thale cress, Snowdrop (probably garden escape), Periwinkle (ditto), White dead-nettle, and ...

Possibly Red Campion at RSPB Arne this week. But wrong time of year to be flowering. Puzzling.

Viburnum (this one not a UK native species, I think -- not Guelder rose, wrong leaves) vs. Yarrow, beside the road on a rather dull, mizzy afternoon
