I'm in the lookout for a new #email provider. Requirements: No megacorp, located within the EU, accessible via IMAP and webmail, professionally maintained. Support for calendar and contacts is a plus. Any recommendations?

I've been using a mac, an M2 Macbook Air, as my daily driver at home since last March. Overall it's been like a breath of fresh air after using Windows for 20 years. The os has the sort of unobtrusive coherency I haven't seen since the days of Windows XP. All my music gear and software just works better than they ever did. In general I feel like I don't need to worry about anything I've come to think as 'computer things'. Yes, VoiceOver has a fairly high pile of bugs that would have never slipped through NVDA's quality control, but in general those are only minor niggles that can be worked around easily.

However, there is one thing that is absolutely driving me up the wall, and that is voiceOver's web support. It's fine on paper but falls apart in 30 minutes. Want to move back to the previous page and continue reading where you were? Nope. Want to hear titles of tabs when moving through them? Nope. Want to read through a table without VO randomly refusing to read half of it? Nope.

Seriously, the web is bad enough with even the absolute top notch assistive tech. I have no spoons to deal with this sort of crap from the actual bit of kit that I can expect to work on top of everything else I need to get through.

So, as a blind computer user I have two options: Either I stick to Windows that pushes all sorts of unvanted things at me, whose audio support is a second-class citizen at best, which can run only on hardware that is no match for the M2 but has a stellar web browsing experience; or I could run MacOs which is more or less perfect 90 % of the time but whose web browsing experience is an independable, bug-ridden mess.

Now, you could say "why not just take the best of both worlds" and that is what I'm doing. Mac for music-making and writing, Windows for heavier web browsing and software development. It just annoys me that MacOs is so close to being just the right thing for me but falls short in the worst way imaginable in this day and age.

These same settings are kind of, sort of working (as is the case with much of VoiceOver) but are half-baked enough to make me unproductive. I get a pause after each period as if I was reading a sentence, and indent reporting tells me the indentation level in the beginning of each line even if it hasn't changed since the previous one. Is this the best we can do?

Do I know of any blind developers who code on Mac with speech only? Any tips on recommended VoiceOver settings / tools? I know these things are very much down to taste but any thoughts would be appreciated. For reference, on Windows and NVDA I've set punctuation to all and have indent level reporting turned on.
