one of my few comforts given

is investing in non-bullshit journalism. so if you're feeling miserable tonight, like me, maybe take the moment to find a journalistic outfit to contribute to/subscribe to monetarily.

a few quick suggestions:

@404mediaco

@molly0xfff 's Citation Needed

@ProPublica

credibility will continue to be one of the things that should define and differentiate us.

the thing to understand about your autistic friends right now is that, while no trait is universal, autism often carries with it an INCREDIBLY strong sense of right and wrong, and so for me today is a global existential shattering of that sense.

along with that is, having thought I developed a decently honed sense of people and the world, realizing that I in fact have little practical insight into current events is devastating on an intimately personal scale.

"After the cursing comes laughter, so that the soul is saved from the dead." Carl Jung, Red Book.

Ol' Carl knew a thing or two about grim and stressful times.

Make sure that after your cursing comes laughter - not only will it help you, but it will show others a viable path of expression and aliveness they may otherwise lock down inside themselves.

The real thing to watch isn't how many channels are carrying the inauguration, but what they report about viewer statistics.

For other true crime fans, I also listened to "Measure of Madness" by Dr. Cheryl Paradis, nonfiction by a forensic psychologist detailing interesting criminal cases around legal insanity, dangerousness, and other issues.

Not world-changing, but entertaining and well-narrated, great brain candy for folks that like criminal psychology-type stuff.

also available as a DRM-free audiobook from libro.fm: https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9781630151287-the-measure-of-madness

Catching up on my reading, and just finished DARK WIRE by @josephcox, about the FBI running the Anom encrypted phone company.

It's an incredibly good, thoughtful narrative of the entire encrypted device ecosphere written by someone that understands the technology and the social impact both.

I'm not really keen on Tuta, the product seems more barebones than I would expect by this point in their lifecycle.

I don't want to move back to gmail, but I need a mature and well-secured email provider. Anyone have suggestions?

I hate to say it, but if the @protonprivacy corporate structures we were hoping would protect Proton from executive malfeasance were useful, we would've seen one single inkling of it by now.

Maybe I'm being impatient, but...

and I'd be almost as popular as Luigi.
