Today I documented the moss species in the area. But this macro photo was taken without a plan, just the sun was shining at the time and the moss was full of water. I realized that it is almost impossible to have predictable conditions. Light, water, temperature, and other factors. I never know when something like this will happen.

Grimmia pulvinata This moss forms little pillows, that's what it's called in my language. But in the macro photos you can see its strange reproductive parts, which look like translucent green melons. Even now in winter they are beautiful, but these melons are actually only one millimeter. They are a much kind of moss, but only this one has melons 😃. You see the white hairs typical of this species.

My favorite helmet-fungi on the way through the Old Forest with my son. You can see by the size of the moss leaves how small they are. They should be Mycena pseudocorticola. On a lying log where I like to stop to take a photo. It's great to be able to navigate the woods at a level where I know where the interesting trees are. However, I'm making a tree list in my head - when winter is over, I'll go harvesting - oysters.

Wow, I don't know what I taking pictures. In the melting snow, I look for and photograph beautiful structures full of light. But here's a piece that breaks down white daylight into colourful components. Looks like a gemstone. But I have no idea how it was made or what it is. It's a macro object, only a few millimeters in size.

Melting snow creates beautiful structures. Moss is ubiquitous in the floodplain forest, growing on tree trunks together with lichens. Its tufts peek out of the snow. Many trees in the floodplain forest have trunks that are horizontal - especially willows. Moss thrives there, but it also grows on the vertical surfaces of the trunks.

Today I'm trying a panoramic photo. This is a central European lowland where the river has very little gradient and meanders in very closed curves. What looks like an island is actually the inside of an arch. The river landscape creates a humid local climate, and the composition of plants and trees corresponds to this. Occasionally the river breaks through the inside of the arch, effectively creating an island. This landscape is always changing.

Finding mushrooms is my favorite activity. But today I wasn't looking for mushrooms to eat them. I found these mushrooms on the trunk of a huge tree by the river where I photograph mosses in the winter time, in the snow. I don't know the species, iNaturalist.org can't find anything similar. So I'm putting it in the database as an unknown species. My finger for comparison - look at the size of your papillary lines and imagine it.
