A group of middle age bikers was assembling on the conbini parking early this morning as I went there to get a coffee.
They all had beautiful custom Harleys and big Electra Glides decorated with Christmas ornaments and were all wearing Santa Claus and reindeer outfits. The leader was clad in a spectacular green Christmas tree costume.
They got on their machines and took off at once in a great rumble for a bit of Chiba touring. it was silly and wonderful and it made my Sunday morning.

We went to Shizuoka today and on the way back stopped as usual at the Fujikawa service area. There is a great observation deck there to look at the big mountain and today Fuji-san was magnificent in the sunset.

Yesterday my wife bought for me a US-brand corduroy jacket at Costco. That’s coming after a stack of Levi’s jeans and flannel shirts last month, also from Costco.
Thus my journey from 100% Uniqlo-decked Japanese family everyman into faux-Midwest dad has begun. This arc, started long ago as a young European urbanite, has still some way to go, although the gravitational pull of Shimamura, the end game for senior citizens here, seems unescapable at some point.

I spent a large part of the day building a fairly complicated cupboard from Nitori.
Generally speaking their design is more boring than IKEA but their assembly instructions are way better. Parts are clearly labeled and numbered with stickers, the nuts and bold are identified as well and the packaging is tidy. Made my life easier today!
