Graphical tools are great for a diff. For everything else with Git, the command line is much better.

I just read this in an article about webmentions ...
The real value of social media (apart from the massive ad revenue and dystopian data mining) is in the reactions we get from other people. The likes, reposts and replies - theyβre what makes it βsocialβ.
Ad revenue isn't an option for me because my bank and I aren't in the same country.
The idea of a large number of people reacting to and sharing something I wrote, either positively or negatively, makes my skin crawl.
The idea of including me in some huge impersonal dataset that will be used to advertise to me and others doesn't particularly bother me, though.
... I'm doomed π

I wanna call people stupid for abusing hashtags, like CSS and JavaScript, because I believe it will only result in people immediately blocking their accounts.
That would probably be naive of me. They would use a different tactic if it didn't work. There must be a significant number of people who are following web dev hashtags and clicking the links in those spam/scam/fraud posts that are clearly unrelated to the hashtag used.

The theme picker on Max BΓΆck's website is awesome! @mxbck #HTML #CSS #a11y (on account of the proper use of ARIA roles)
It's even got a custom pointer for the "Lobster Life" theme π€©

I'm not sure I understand how making money with social networking happens, but I'm glad it is working out for you.
Most of the ways that people make money online are completely inaccessible to me, mostly because of my own bad decisions.
People keep emphasizing the importance of social networking. I'm trying, but I really don't have much to offer Β―_(γ)_/Β―

deleted.
That was quick.
I guess content creators can delete unfavorable comments.
For the record, I was tactful, respectful, and courteous. I didn't use any links or swear words.
I still have the full text of my comment. I always type my comments into Vim then copypaste rather than typing them directly into another interface.

In a YouTube video, Coder Foundry says that "2025 Is A PERFECT Time To Be a Web Developer".
I'm dubious.
I think they intentionally avoided some topics and were misleading about those they did cover.
Some comments were short and sweet, like "delusional, lol", but I wanted an actual dialog. I left a long comment hoping to get their perspective on some of these relevant issues...
"Ghost Jobs", ATS, over-saturation of the job sector, tech skill vs networking skill.
For the record, I don't endorse Coder Foundry and I don't think anybody should pay $50/month (minimum) for something they could get for free between YouTube, freeCodeCamp, and MDN.

I often see people on Reddit asking for free Web Development work. Sure, a few people respond negatively, but there's always at least one who's willing to do the work.
I'm guilty, too, though... a little. If I see an interesting problem, I'll try to solve it even if the OP has made low/no effort.
What does this mean for Web Development as a career path?

Well, that didn't last long... I followed a bunch of tech-focused "Starter Packs" on #BlueSky, but I can scroll and scroll and scroll and see nuthin' but politics and shallow, tryhard, insincere attempts at building engagement. π

[#]Mastodon does something perfect for me that the other services don't seem to have figured out.
I can follow a hashtag.
It's as simple as this... I want to engage with people over everything they might have to say on particular topics, but I have no interest in their commentary about politics, religion, social issues, economy, food, weather, movies, TV shows, etc.

Am I the only person who's frustrated by blog entries without dates?
Especially when it's a Web Design and Development topic. If I'm reading about a "new" trend or guideline, I'd like to know if it's actually new.
I guess people are running ads and they want their content to seem new and relevant for as long as possible.

Spammers have started using "AI" to write their messages. It's probably been going on for a while, but I just noticed it.
795 words of clear garbage. I don't read these. I just copied and pasted it into a word counter.
I usually just check my spam folder to make sure there aren't any non-spam messages.
If I got a legitimate email from a "friend" or family member that was 795 words long I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do much more than skim that, either.

I dreamt I had my last birthday party...
Present were some of my oldest friends. Most of the faces were blurry as they are in dreams.
One friend, who was an almost-relationship that never quite happened wouldn't hug me close. I guess she worried I would molest her in some way. It hurt my feelings.
The warmest, best hugs came from people I was never very close to in real life.
My wife wouldn't even sit near me.
My daughter wasn't there.
