It is difficult

to get the news from poems

yet men die miserably every day

for lack

of what is found there

Hey new fedi people: Mastodon isn't like those other apps. It's like going for a walk in the woods. First, start with being quiet. Take note of the plant witch in the moss covered hut. Click follow. Observe the gentle troll sleeping in a pile of leaves. Click follow. Say hello to the owl peering down at you from the oak tree. Click follow. Keep following until your feed is a calm forest stream flowing past lichen covered stones. Now you have reached the meadow. Take a nap. #fedimigration

We need about 100 more studies like this one before we even begin to think about using generative AI in the classroom.

What is particularly noteworthy is that AI technologies such as ChatGPT may promote learners' dependence on technology and potentially trigger “metacognitive laziness”

"I prefer to do my own thinking. Using your brain keeps it sharp. Just like taking the stairs (if you are able) instead of an elevator keeps your legs strong. When people stop thinking for themselves, they will lose the ability to think for themselves. As they progressively lose this ability, they will become proportionally less able to realize they have lost this ability."

I keep yeeting blog posts about genAI into the howling void.

Went for our traditional 'hike while everyone else is opening presents' outing today and met this beautiful lady. We also had a great horned owl hoot us from the tree right outside our front door on the solstice so the birds seem to be in our favor this year. #birdphotography #raptor #birdsofmastodon

I should mention that most of these came from Goodwill Finds or the local flea market--both excellent places to find old systems.

It's fascinating how we 'naturalize tradition' by assuming our ideas and feelings about something as basic as color are somehow hardwired/inborn.

I'm teaching my 5th graders how to use drills and drivers right now. We're going to build a greenhouse and grow some vegetables. I feel like the first proto-human who taught a child how to make a stone axe. This is better than AI. All the 'edtech thought leaders' telling me I need to integrate AI into my curriculum can shrivel up and blow away on the cold cyber wind of 'progress'. I will keep teaching kids to do real stuff and make the world a better place. #edu #teacher #maker #making #fablab

My son created this D&D 'starter pack' meme. I don't really understand memes but I appreciate the amount of work he put into it and he wanted me to post it for him. Perhaps it will make sense to the D&D players out there. #dungeonsAndDragons

This butternut squash had two little dings that looked like eyebrows so spouse drew a worried face on it. The squash looks really worried. I give it a little pat whenever I walk by and tell it everything is going to be okay. #anxiety
