Nature has been extremely kind lately. At the pier last night, wondering if I'll ever see another ray like the other week. Sure enough, moments later one appeared! It swam round the area several times before I lost sight of it. Doesn't stay still for very long and only had phone, so pics are meh at best. Also a small school of fish under the pier in pic 1.

It's one of these greenhood varieties. Seems they're common enough.
(Not affiliated and not my photos, just found in a search).

Ok I really need to get into the photo processing.
Some time ago I saw an orchid (well, 2) that I hadn't noticed before. Was in a tricky spot next to a log, facing the wrong way :(
I searched that area several times since, not finding another specimen. Checked back a week or so later and one was still there. That was months ago now.
NYE I went to the other rainforest-y area. Walking along... Very loud music starts a considerable distance away.
I pause. Look down. And there it was!

Oh and another bucket list item ticked off today (well, besides the surprise of the 2nd ray).
I see the Sea Eagles reasonably often, but the Wedge Tailed, not so much. Caught it today at last, though it was with the helios 58mm (effective fov ~87mm) so not a big zoom, but it was not too far away. In the processing queue with all the others, will update here when I process it.

Ran into the local pro underwater photographer today, who advises that was an eagle ray that I saw. Two species live in the bay here and use it as a breeding ground, hence their protected status.
And while chatting at the shoreline, one of the other species swam right up to within maybe 7-8m of us in the shallows, checked us out for a bit, then lazily wandered off. I didn't want to be rude and pull the camera out, and it was underwater at a low angle, so no pics of it. Another time.

Bucket list item achieved while standing on the local pier.
A manta ray just swam alongside mere metres away close to the surface.
When it swam over the boat ramp under the light (it's 3:30sm) I managed to get a poor phone pic.

I really would have liked to frame that gull better, but it was chased away by a Pacific gull moments after the shot above was taken. Was lucky to get that one. Nature can be so inconsiderate at times lol.

I wasn't sure if #DarkTable could mask a LUT3D filter, but of course it can. Noice.

I should have used a nicer image lol, just grabbed one that had such bad CA it stood out in thumbnail.
Aside from that, the colour tinge is still quite visible to my eye in the processed image. There's room on the CA correction sliders to go further which can fix it, but at that point the edges of other non-ca areas get negatively impacted too, so it's either/or situation. One for the bin.

An advantage to CA with older lenses: see exactly where the focus point is - centred between the magenta and cyan tinge.
A sample with really bad CA best demonstrates an unprocessed vs final image. (The photo was underexposed to hold detail in the bright regions of sunlight).
To be fair, this was taken with a focal reducer, which likely made the CA worse.
