@ai6yr I bring this up because school closures have ripple effects. Parents need to find childcare and miss work, etc.
It can also make your locality unattractive for business.

@ai6yr Just to pile on to the wind discussion, my wife is waiting to hear today whether she will be teaching tomorrow.
The district is annoyed that SDG&E keeps shutting off the power. There are some safety issues with trying to hold school without power but there are larger personnel issue with teachers losing childcare, so simply having backup power at the school won't help.
Communities can budget for snowplows to keep schools open in all but extreme cases. They had better figure this out.

"The US Senate passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act with a 76 YEA 20 NAY vote. This is a huge win for public servants and rights a decades long wrong which unfairly reduced earned Social Security benefits for public servants like us who receive pensions."
I have been dreading the thought that I really needed to go back and work 4 or 5 more years at a non teaching job before I retired. I hope this is signed quickly and not musked up next year.

Hello #AdventOfCode elves, I guess?
I am looking for (or will host) a leaderboard of non-competitive folk who just like the additional motivation of seeing other Mastodonians earning stars. Preferably it would be CS education related folks, but I would just like to have a solid group of people.
Anyone interested?

For my in class activity yesterday we collaboratively built Day 1: Historian Hysteria from #AdventOfCode using JavaScript in Code.org's AppLab.
This is a platform that goes with their AP Computer Science Principles course.
There are some advanced techniques here that I wouldn't expect them to know (regex) but I think it's good for them to see and copy code and to build understanding.
