Found an old Flip Video camera in a desk drawer last year and immediately forgot about it again until now. Still works! Tho I can only set the year as high as 2020...this is my "Geeky Zen Garden" above my desk. Whenever I stand up, a little moment of gleeful geekyness.

Ok, I got this little compact lamp in my stocking and thought - great, sure. But I have used it so many times! When you have "gay lighting" in your household, bright lights are a rare commodity.

Meta is creating a competitor to the CapCut video editor, called Edits. Timing is so convenient with the TikTok ban cutting off access to CapCut as well….almost like it was planned. 🤔

Too bad the ban didn’t last as long as expected…for now.

One of the best things about the fediverse is choice. There are all kinds of apps available, and each one fills a niche and presents your feeds to you in different ways.

There are alternative Pixelfed apps, and on iOS, @impressia stands out. I know @PixelDroid is available for Android users as well. Don’t be afraid to check out non-default apps!

Looking for a Mastodon video feed? Well….its not TikTok, but if you are on a Mastodon instance with enhanced search enabled, you can see a video timeline.

Try entering the phrase (order matters here) into your search bar.

has:video -is:sensitive #CatsOfMastodon

Change the hashtag to whatever your interest.

Sigh. Maybe yall can liven it up a bit. Without a way for content creators to get paid, it’s not going to happen here.

I've been spending the past week or so migrating over my TikTok feeds to other apps. My preferences, in order:

Fediverse Account

Website RSS Feed

Podcast RSS Feed

Newsletters (also sometimes has RSS feeds)

YouTube RSS Feed (wonder how long this will last)

Substack (sigh)

So far, no Ghost or Wordpress blogs from these Creators.

If no other way, then I will see if they have a Threads account, then an Instagram. But I am not using those much.

Read.cv and the related social media app Posts.cv are closing shop. It’s too bad, they were a delightful alternative to LinkedIn for the digital creative crowd.

Worse, the organization is being absorbed into Perplexity AI. You may want to delete your data on these two apps prior to that happening.
