Dear fellow ADHD people,

I know many of us (me included) don't like how pathologizing psychiatric terms and diagnoses can sound. "Disorder" this, "disorder" that ... like people looking from the outside, only seeing our flaws, and labeling us based on that.

Now imagine if terms like ADHD did not exist and we got to come up with our own terms to name what we experience.

What term would you come up with to describe your neurodiverse experience?

Please boost this post to hopefully get some responses. I am very curious about what some creative alternatives to the term ADHD might be, from the people actually affected.

And maybe you will forever remember those highly productive days as "proof" of how much you are capable of. And maybe on your weak days, it might be tempting to judge yourself based on that. You might feel like you should be able to do a lot more. After all, you have done so in the past, right? The memory shines bright in your mind. And then maybe you push yourself too hard, but since the spoons are scarce that day, you borrow a lot from your future self. And you burn out. For a long time.

The thing about ADHD and Autism is, the "spoons" theory of disability does apply, but with some twists.

Every day you get a wildly random amount of spoons. If life is going well for you and you take good care of yourself, your chances increase. You might get bonus spoons. Or you might not. But if you don't take good care of yourself, you almost definitely won't. But even if you do, you can't count on having more spoons, because it's still random, and they probably won't be available on the days when you most need them. But every once in a while, you might get so many, that you might be 100x more productive than usual on that day.

The inconsistency is the disability.
