I've been curious where breaking news would spread on social media after abandoning Twitter. Interestingly I heard about the 7.0 earthquake off the northern California coast from #Mastodon before #Bluesky despite having more connections on Bluesky.

"11 Common Things Gen X Experienced That Are No Longer Affordable For Gen Z"
I guess I'm not really #GenX (I am) I've only experienced 3 of those 11 things and two of those three only within the last 5 years.
There are significant differences between early Gen X and late Gen X.

@sltrib Also, Utah would benefit greatly from free online access to SLTrib. That paywall encourages people to look for lower quality (but free) sources of information.

Tribune editorial: The Utah Legislature should deny funding for the I-15 expansion project and instead put that $3.7 billion toward alternative transportation options like commuter and light rail, express bus service and more tolls on the highway.

Spot on @sltrib. Someone needs to quantify how many people in Utah are driving cars and contributing to congestion only because we won't build the infrastructure to make any other choice reasonable. (I know a few.)

Human flourishing cannot take place in a society as chaotic, angry, and divided as the one we have currently.
We must abandon the idea that any restriction on gun ownership is an affront to personal liberty.
We must reduce the ability and likelihood of people turning violent.
We must seek out and engage those who have become disconnected by choice or by circumstance.
We must build resilient communities that proactively reach out to those who are marginalized or forgotten.

I have come to the conclusion that proportional representation can improve our civic environment and remove the incentives for gerrymandering that plague us each census even beyond what simply expanding the House would do. #ProportionalRepresentation
In fact I would combine expanding the house, open primaries, and proportional representation.

This is also why I have long advocated for expanding the House. #UncapTheHouse
I am also convinced that we should not limit voters to a single party in primary elections. (Still one vote per race but like the general election they can split their ticket.) #OpenPrimaries
These are necessary steps to realign our government to be "of the people, by the people, and for the people" as our founders hoped.
What they designed was calculated to support human flourishing.

Peace and prosperity are natural byproducts of human flourishing. Unfortunately, human flourishing is not a guaranteed byproduct of prosperity.
All social policies should be measured against how they promote human flourishing.
This is why I strongly support UBI - because it promotes human flourishing - especially among the most marginalized and vulnerable.
I think the most important aim stated in the preamble to the constitution might be to "promote the general welfare"

Trump says Democrats are going to cheat in the election. That's a very interesting way to pronounce "vote"
(Americans inherently understand that cheat is a 4-letter word when it comes to elections.)

Hilarious that Trump thinks running to the right of Fox is a winning strategy.

Doyle McManus does a good job in the Los Angeles Times of laying out the positive case to vote for Kamala Harris (for those who don't consider "after January 6th, not being Donald Trump should be enough reason" to be a sufficiently positive argument).

Jennifer Lopez adds another entry in the long list of phenomenal endorsements for Kamala Harris. Listen to the whole speech.
She also makes a critical point about not voting (and I argue that includes voting for a candidate with no chance in any close election): "a non-vote is an agreement."(11:15)
My belief is that not votingβor casting a protest voteβmeans you are willing to accept the election of whoever you most dislike

Forget the Polls Showing a Dead Heat. Kamala Harris Will Win β by David Rothkopf
A loud minority can sound like they have majority support and the media can act as if it's close (for fear of being accused that they put their finger on the scales) but there's a long list of reasons to believe that voters will not let America down.
