Kid #1, after a long period of not wanting to read much for fun, has decided to give it a try again. I had a lot of fun pulling books off the shelves. (The pile includes The Secret Skin, The Twisted Ones, The Hollow Places, A House with Good Bones, This is How You Lose the Time War, and Mexican Gothic.)

“Farm Boy”

The third issue of Baubles From Bones is now live and includes my short story "Farm Boy." You can read it online or pick up a digital or print copy from the publishers' Etsy shop. Cover art by Lucas Kurz "Farm Boy" is my evil overlord story. I am old enough to have witnessed some of the web's earliest "if I were an evil overlord I would simply not " lists, and a few years ago the spouse and I were making jokes about orphans in some book or other and the…

Voted. In was a nice walk on a gorgeous day, not a cloud in the sky. Spouse and I went with Kid #1. Kid and I flipped off a Trump/Vance sign (on behalf of ourselves and Kid #2, who opted not to come but asked for a proxy flip off), chatted with folks tabling, cast our vote, picked up Chinese food, and chatted with a neighbor and her dog on the way home.

My Kobo refused to wake up. It asserted it was 99% charged (makes sense, since it was plugged in well before the battery drained) and multiple rounds of button-pushing still resulted in a hung up startup process.

So, factory reset time. Second or third attempt worked. When it came up, it informed me that the battery was at 1%. So now it seems to've synced, I can sideload later, and it'll maybe be okay when it charges?

Needless to say, I am very pissed off at this piece of equipment right now.

Spotted my first Cybertruck in the wild. Parked in a driveway in Abington, PA, so I guess it looked slightly less ridiculous than if it was in motion. (The house next door was being scaled by Home Depot skeletons.)
