Just returned from picking up my new #Costco membership card. The customer service rep asked what had influenced me to get a membership. I told her I’d been thinking about it for ages, but the company’s recent recommitment to #diversity and #inclusion pushed me off the fence. I wanted to support that. She looked touched and said lots of people have been cancelling memberships because of it. She thanked me for the support and said, “it’s nice to know there are still good people out there.” ✊❤️

Accessibility ramps, doors, and parking spots are “DEI initiatives”. Special education is a “DEI program”. Child care promotes DEI. Freedom of religion (which Rs love to croon about) is a “DEI principle”.

DEI is not about hiring or promoting an unqualified candidate over a qualified one. DEI is about helping people overcome their innate biases that the ONLY qualified candidate is a white straight able-bodied* cisgender Christian man.

Yes! It’s so important people understand what DEI is and isn’t. Rs co-opt, corrupt, and demonize anything that remotely tries to raise awareness and improve outcomes (remember CRT and SEL?). And the media is so complicit in allowing Rs to redefine it and push their narrative, it drives me mad…

In reality, every woman with a job is a “DEI hire”. Equal pay for equal work is a “DEI initiative”…

I signed up for a #Costco membership today. On this day, I feel like I have finally become an adult.

Also, I am very excited for the samples, and have already picked out the hat, scarf, and sunglasses I will wear when I circle back for seconds.

Today’s 3 good things:

• rewatched #KillBill Pt. 1. How did Uma Thurman not win an Oscar for this?? It’s the best movie I’ve ever seen, especially when I am tipsy. Always makes me want to go to #Japan although I probably will never get there. Fun thinking about it though.

• possibly related to #1, currently enjoying my second very large strawberry margarita. Yummmm.

• listening to #BillyJoel’s #InnocentMan with my partner. So good.

Update: So despite my MOOD earlier today, the day turned out fairly well. Got some work done, had online tea with my mom, flipped off a cybertruck on the way to my self-defense course, and practiced yelling, kicking, and hand strikes at said self/defense course. And, as hoped, we practiced with the punching bag. I imagined the bag was FOTUS, and kicked and struck harder than I ever have before. It felt great. Then ended the day with pizza, wine, and Jeopardy with my partner. Not too bad. ❤️
