Wrote a post about Inquirer.js and how I use it for exporting content from my WordPress instances for use in something like Eleventy.

Decided to reverse engineer #WordPress' theme.json into an #11ty template that renders the output as CSS:

Good initiative but quite worrying this is not apparently being built using GOV.uk design system. Give the breath of this project this surely should be using familiar and well tested design patterns. Also appears to be built using react and 2MB of JavaScript meaning poor performance for mobile users on low powerred devices.

Building drag and drop…I see it’s not gotten any easier since DHTML.

Decided to properly move over my core 11ty starter instance over to 3.0 and do ESM properly, must admit now realise I didn’t fully get the difference between approaches. Just spicy includes right?! Got myself in a bit of a mess here and there with some hand spun filters and utils but adding .js to everything along with type=module seemed to fix most things. Was mostly syntax foo. Also the upgrade helper was…. A huge help

Point 1: React is maybe a bad thing for many use cases, especially client side: https://infrequently.org/2024/08/the-way-out/

Point 2: WordPress custom block development mostly requires React.

Point 3: Many WordPress developers are not Javascript engineers. And many just don't want to learn React.

Point 4: Block theme adoption is sluggish at best.

Been auditing a headless WordPress site build this week. It’s been built really well. All the plugins and theme code is really good. I don’t really do react but the Nuxt instance seems lean and clean but damn it’s slow.

You really see what @slightlyoff has been telling people for so long why this is just bad practice. They could have just built PHP templates (it’s mostly ACF blocks anyway) and would have been several times faster.

I miss the European elections.

Used to love that we were part of a much larger club. Such an act of self harm I rarely allow my self space to consider it as it’s just too much to take in.

Been a Virgin Media customer for over 20 years. Asked to cancel as I don't use TV or a fixed phone line. Their ‘offer’ to me was a 50% price increase for the services I already said I do not use. So that's the end of that then.

Pretty much finished my vanity project thanks to an internet stranger and their personal archive. Apart from a couple of small bugs/workarounds the game is pretty much playable as it was in 2001.

I do think partially synced patterns are going to turbo charge WordPress development. Being able to make global changes to patterns whilst not disrupting existing block content is going to be great. Will allow me to migrate a lot of custom components over to block patterns. #wordpress

Decided to give this a spin, amusingly simple, within 5 minutes had it installed, indexed 16k+ html files and had an operational search page.

Ah yes. Driver logic. Starts driving though an orange whilst I’m halfway across road.

‘Im allowed to go through on orange’

‘Yes. But not when people are crossing’

‘Torrent of abuse’

And they still thought they were right. Learn to drive. Then lecture me.
