Here's what checking a couple tasks at the bottom of a longer task list looks like for me, on Safari:

I think GitHub issues reloads the page every time you check a task now. 🤦‍♂️

I used to love GH issues, and I have issue trackers for all aspects of my life, such as home maintenance tasks. It's becoming unusably slow. :/

The best part of my day, by far, was participating in an MLK day march.

I'm finding GitHub issues incredibly slow to work with today. Checking a task off takes about 3-5 seconds, if it registers at all.

Is it me, or is it GitHub?

And it had the desired effect of taking the edge off of puppy energy for the day. :)

Most of the walk was much more scenic than that. :)

I went for a walk in the woods today on a snowy forest service road, and was quite surprised to see a snake for the first time since we moved here.

Maybe it will help me install Python on Linux?

I have a short list of classical pieces I really want to see live at least once in my life. The 5th piano concerto is high on that list, and I've never seen it played before. :)

Is anyone in my Python circle* going to PyCon, and would be interested in going to a symphony?

The Pittsburgh Symphony is playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 5 on Friday at 7:30pm. I'm going to grab tickets this week.

We got about 3 inches of snow on Friday, and our county is on the fourth day of being shut down. No school Friday, no school today.

I don't have any issue with it. There's no sense in investing heavily in equipment and resources to handle something that happens only on rare occasions.

It does make for really quiet days in town. Coming from New England and AK, it's pretty funny to watch everyone just wait for things to melt. :)

@carlton @chrisjrn Chris did a really nice job of going back and looking at the book as a whole, and calling out the limited dataset it worked from, and critiquing the conclusions for what they mean for maintainers, and users.

If you haven't seen that talk yet, I think you'd really enjoy it.

@carlton, I was thinking about your rereading of Working in Public as I finally got around to watching @chrisjrn's talk "An Obvious Statement About Open Source". The talk was just as good as everyone's been saying.

Chris was pretty critical of WiP in a way I really appreciated. I read a book like that and focus on the aspects of my own work that it helps clarify, with an eye toward what it says about others' work as well.

Even though you have to use the CodeRed web dashboard to create a project, an initial deployment can still be done in 2-3 minutes. That's impressively fast for an initial deployment.

I'm going to make a push to finalize the 1.0 release of django-simple-deploy this week and next week.

I spent the last few weeks writing a plugin for CodeRed, but most of that time was actually spent buying a new house and moving over the holidays. I'm really excited about how this project facilitates automated deployments in a standardized way, across a range of platforms.

We closed on a new house just before Christmas. Since then we've received about 20 pieces of mail with the name of our bank, saying we have to respond to about "an important matter regarding your loan with <your_bank>".

We know enough to tell which pieces of mail are from our bank, but there is so much predatory advertising in the US.

Is it like this everywhere, or is this a US-specific thing? I sure feel for all the people who struggle to tell which mail is legitimate and which is not.

For anyone who shared thoughts on desks, monitor arms etc last fall, I finally got to put it all together in the new house last week. It’s working great!

This is my workspace for simple_deploy, with core work on the bottom, plugin work on the top, and file browser/ main terminal on the left.

This should be great for writing as well. Code on one monitor, writing on another, and the option to throw a book full screen on the left.

The trail ended at a saddle, so I followed a less distinct path to a nearby summit. At the top I thought “Wow, you could get turned around pretty easily up here!”

Then I started running back down, only to realize a few minutes later that I was indeed heading down a different ridge than I went up.

It’s really interesting getting to know a new landscape.

I took a nice new years walk in the woods yesterday. I can’t get over how much nicer 40s and sunny is in the winter than 30s and raining. :)
