It was midday at the beach and I asked a friend to shade this small scene for me, just with his body (I forgot my diffuser at home, duh!). I loved how the bright sunlight all around us flooded the scene, giving the smooth pebbles this gleaming look.

I just learned that the Royal Tern's German name is Königsseeschwalbe. (literal translation: King's Ocean Swallow.)

These are small out of focus light spots on glass mosaic pieces, on a sculpture in Niki de Saint Phalle's large outdoor art installation "Queen Califia's Magical Circle" here in Escondido, California. It's such a fun place to explore, with or without camera!

I'm a landscape & nature photographer in San Diego, California — an incredibly diverse place! I make most of my photos locally. I like grand scenics & nature's small scenes, and am also keen on finding and photographing our native plants.

Oh, how I missed the muffled sound of raindrops drumming onto the rooftop vent covers, water gurgling in the gutters, gushing through the downspouts into the rain barrels, and just bubbling into the ground.

Finally, rain in Southern California, more than 3 1/2 months after our "water year" and wet season began.

Rain in the forecast. Finally! First good storm since the beginning of our water year on October 1st. Surreal!
