It's a busy day for me at #FOSDEM with two talks! "The OpenAPI Landscape" is at 09:30 (the hangover slot!) in the APIs track. I'm so excited to bring news from the OpenAPI Initiative to the FOSDEM crowd.

At noon, as a last minute fill-in for a sick speaker, I'll be on the main track in K with "Beyond the README: Developer Experience for Open Source Projects". I've always wanted to do the main track here, but this is the first time and honestly, it's been a scramble. I'm excited though (as always!)

Can anyone report the location of a working drinking fountain at #fosdem?

I somehow didn’t anticipate that being part of the resistance would involve endless queueing to pay for a very large number of very small glass bottles of water, and with four sessions to deliver through the weekend, I should try to stay hydrated!

In 30 minutes I'll be giving my "CLI Magic for Documentation Projects" talk in the Tool the Docs room at #FOSDEM. If you want to see it, I hope you're already here because the room is full ....

Slides are available but the talk is mostly demo, I think I might have to publish the content as a small ebook, would that be interesting?

There’s chat of how to fund open source development and maintenance. My personal ideal would be an interesting day job with some time allocated to open source. I think this benefits the employers as well, they are represented in the project that they are supporting and can hire the kind of people who can contribute to open source! Let me know if you need an employee like that, I’m looking! #chaosscon

Quick blog post walking through some GitHub GraphQL examples using Python. I didn't find a lot of examples when I was building this, so I thought I'd better share mine https://lornajane.net/posts/2025/querying-the-github-graphql-api

And remember: "wherever you get your podcasts" is a wonderful situation to be in. You can literally choose how to access your content, and that really does matter.

An opportunity to hear my voice! I was on the Not Boring Tech Writer Podcast with Kate. We had a great time and covered some important topics. Not all technical people will listen to anything with the word "writer" in the title, which makes it feel like a cosy secret society or something!!

After #FOSDEM (2 talks, about OpenAPI, and about CLI tools), I'll be popping by train to London for #SooCon25 (panel about OSS maintainance). Please let me know if I'll see you in either location?

Here's the information you need (thanks @janl !) you need to get access to the settings you need to turn off the Gemini features in your Google Workspace if you don't want them: https://writing.jan.io/2025/01/17/how-to-disable-google-gemini-in-your-workspace.html

The settings aren't available by default, but if you chat to support, they'll add the extra options to your workspace admin screens.

Added a Wallabag integration to FeedBin and overwhelmed myself with "to-read" articles, in a wonderful way :) Moving away from having all my data in someone else's services has been a great catalyst for refreshing my whole tools setup!

Static analysis tools for dynamically typed languages are even more magical when you actually run them .... this would have saved me SO much time today if I had!

If you generate your OpenAPI files, or just want to polish them, you think you can't edit them because they'll be regenerated. Good news: you can save your edits as an Overlay and Speakeasy have some tools that make this easy in both the user-friendly sense and the automatable sense!

Check out the blog post I wrote (and then had to edit before I even published it when they shipped more tools) https://lrnja.net/3C4NLOU
