I reiterate my previous position
We should have built long-distance high speed rail, connecting to Scotland, Wales and Ireland via ferry connection at Holyhead, while the Channel Tunnel was being built. Then we'd already have a network on a par with - and indeed a part of - Europe's high speed network.
Instead we'll get another half botched compromise which cannot deliver the needed capacity, and continue to stumble along with a cobbled together railway while blinded to how far behind we fall
