Work is inflicting a College-wide password change on us for no obvious/confessed reason, so now I have wasted two hours trying to think up something typeable, memorable, and not one of the last fifteen extremely strong ones I thought up. Good job everyone, sterling use of my time.

It’s an un-unfurled pitcher plant pitcher, not whatever your grubby mind mistook it for.

(I realised when describing this to someone irl that an “un-unfurled” thing is “furled”. Can you believe I teach scientific writing to students?)

Today in #London.

Man nearly knocks me down cycling on the pavement while dressed in a massive parka bedecked with huge flashing Christmas lights. He screams, “Welcome to Thunderdome,” as he careens past.

Man in the toilets in Victoria Station stripped to the waist and shaving his back into the sink with a disposable Bic razor. Gives me a judgemental look when I pause briefly to primp my hair in the mirror.

Doing UCAS university application triage today, and yet again I find myself wondering how many of the applicants have injected their relatives with carcinogens, broken the legs of dogs, or infected their siblings with viruses purely to use them as a weird hook into the uncomfortable narrative of the rest of their personal statement.

This is supposed to be a spiky fluffy inflorescence but the stem on which the little flowers grow is weirdly flattened and then overgrows sideways in way that looks like it’s trying to explore hyperbolic space. Celosia argentea - cristate mutant.
