My vet has a new system that needs a profile image for each cat. I'm now scrolling through a million cat photos looking for cute headshots.

Hardware nerds, here's an odd one. I have a little Lenovo Chromebook which is a tablet with keyboard case. Today, the keyboard started going completely wild. Every time I touched it, it would type loads of key combinations, like it was possessed. Device working fine as a tablet. Assumed the keyboard connection was b0rked. But no. It's only happening if the tablet is plugged into USB charging.

I was looking everywhere for my tape measure. Gave up. Got coffee. Sat here drinking coffee and reading emails for several minutes before I even registered it was next to my mug.

I don't do anything like the amount of conference speaking I used to do, but I've got to a few events this year to talk about Baseline and CSS. Here's my roundup of public speaking in 2024 https://rachelandrew.co.uk/archives/2024/12/31/public-speaking-in-2024/

Because I totally know how to be OOO, I've written up a proposal for block direction multicol overflow (so you can set a height on your columns and them wrap to create a new row rather than overflowing inline).

You can comment on that here https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/2923#issuecomment-2566448417

Reached my 2024 running goal of 1400 miles today, while running the Southville Robin. Apparently there is much debate amongst local runners as to the correct tail and toe length, and whether you should create the "weird eye" or not.

My daughter has arrived to spend Christmas with me, she's a technical project manager, so we're both on the sofa with our laptops. Cats are circling, in the hope that they might be able to reclaim a lap from a computer.

For 12 Days of Web I answered a question that I've answered from stage in presentations but not written about: "Why not include polyfills in Baseline?" I also describe how Baseline can help you to decide what and when to polyfill https://12daysofweb.dev/2024/how-to-use-baseline-data/
