[#]AdventOfCode is quite a wonderful test of #ChatGPT's capabilities to create executable code. On day 2's specification (and we agree that the specification is quite good as people will yield the right result upon completion) it generated okay looking code that upon visual inspection already yielded two bugs. The code is runnable, but yields the completely wrong answer.

And that's day 2 ladies and gentlemen.

Good luck replacing your workforce with 2024's incarnation of AI.

I am not massively opposed to the latest wave of #AI but this shit is going the wrong direction in many ways...

You would disengage with CEOs of huge companies because they congratulate the next legitimately voted for President? I don’t think it’s a sensible angle.

Democracies have every right to dismantle themselves, and no democracy has been the default state in our history. We are still the same monkeys that built Pyramids for pharaos. Let‘s work with it, do our best and be nice to ourselves.

Btw, we survived 4 years of dickhead, why not another 4?

Protecting a #democracy against its own electorate is kind of…conceptually broken. Is there a solution out there that makes sense?

When the majority is not interested in democratic processes, the logical conclusion is their unwinding.

Of course, getting them back on is much harder, but that’s a different story.

And sure you can ask why the majority is not interested in such a situation - clearly we failed at educating the current and future electorate.

But what’s done is done.

Das Fell für die Trommel

The drumheads

They supply it themselves.

If you’re not a billionaire, or not even a millionaire, and then allow a government that is still rooted in institutional power and elections to be dismantled by anti-democratic forces, by electing exactly those forces

…then you’re acting against your own interests, you are guaranteeing that things will turn out worse for you.

100%, no exceptions handed out.

Yes, institutions still often struggle to represent you, the dude, the gal, the trans with little in the pocket. It’s a constant fight.

But when a fascist or whatever other personality cult takes over, the struggle is over. You lost the fight. You’re now a drone to do the bidding of those in power. Your life standards will worsen, your nation’s performance will worsen, which is all too logical, since the nation now only exists to satisfy the needs of a few power hungry sociopaths.

So don’t be a fool. If you’re not bloody rich you must elect democratic as long as you can, because it’s the only fighting chance you’ve got. Sure you think that democracy sucks, and we’re having a rough patch baby, I’m not gonna deny this, but what you’re electing there ain’t the solution, it is like killing yourself when you have the flu to make it go away.

Go vote parties that support orderly transfer of power, strengthening institutions and regular elections.

✌🏼

My colleagues will be posting an issue in #WebStorm where a current Typescript version is wreaking havoc in the IDE. I definitely see quality issues in #JetBrains IDEs right now.

I wish companies would focus less on LLMs and more on good old software dev.

Looking back, it doesn’t seem like Europe‘s leaders handled the black death particularly well.

So pardon me if I don’t expect much from our leaders as shit will hit the fan at ever accelerating rate. #ClimateCrisis

Just now I searched for something on the Internet, and there was a blog post as a result, and it even had a tl;dr; and it had a date so I could understand in the fraction of a second how relevant the info is, and I was thinking how much smoother this is than asking a stupid LLM for anything, and...now, I'm not crying, you're crying.

I would like to build a Stream implementation in #dotnet that takes in an IAsyncEnumerable<byte[]> and gives stream semantics so that I can use eg a JsonTextReader on top of an #IAsyncEnumerable - am I completely crazy to do so, or has it maybe even been done somewhere already?
