Posting things most places on the Internet has more or less become a sink hole for emotional energy. It's pretty amazing how many people will attack the most basic things in the most over-the-top way. Forums that I used to like, comments on blog posts I have written, and lots of other places just increasingly are full of people being assholes.

Can American businesses please get back to pouring money into research like this instead of dumping it into the hype machine by the truckload?

I love so much the bomb that Deepseek dropped on the AI market. Wiping that stock value out, and so clearly showing the level of stupidity and waste involved in Sam Altman's next crazy-making plan is just perfect. More, please!

I feel badly for the nice, good people who already had one before this guy really showed everyone who he is in the last few years. But if youโre driving a Cybertruck, you should have known better by then.

Look folks, the #Tesla โfounderโ and CEO is up there giving Nazi salutes. You buy one, you are supporting that and funding the right wing in the USA.

One of the things I hate so much about AI is that you see an amazing photo now and just assume it's not real, or at a minimum have to spend a fair bit if time to find out.

Corollary to Kernighan's law - If your programming language is as clever as you can handle, you are not smart enough to debug software written in it.
Kernighan's Law - Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

Also worth noting that data centers require energy 24x7 and so intermittent green energy solutions are inadequate. So 140 new gas plants are being bright online in the US. Think about the carbon output.

Notably, data centers nationwide already cannot get the energy they need to contract for. Some companies are building their own gas power plants, notably Microsoft in Wyoming. But the grids themselves are nowhere able to absorb the huge increases needed (even if production were to come online) to support both electrification of cars and the AI boom. One of these is necessary and the other is clearly not. But one has the money, and itโs not the necessary one.

Data centers, the AI boom, and electrification of transport threaten to derail US energy grids and expose severe under investment and under production, We are currently headed for either a slowdown in tech expansion or a stark curb in green energy targets or both. Why is this not being covered well in US outlets?

Hey Britain, (you, too, Ireland) get your shit together. What the heck is going on at Holyhead? That there was not a pre-existing contingency plan in place for the damaged port is shocking. Honestly, in 2024.
