after being in parts of the country where literally nobody was wearing masks inside or on transit, it was great to get back to SF where I just saw a person on the 14R wearing a mask that had "Fuck Fuck Fuck" written all over it. at least 8 Fucks on the mask. it's good to be home

@pentney @sanae thing about being a billionaire is there's a lot you can do even without a cutting wit or coherent analysis. just being a stumbling oaf in the public sphere will materially advance your politics. we have to be a lot more strategic about acquiring and wielding power, he can change things unconsciously. it's why we have to organize, nobody can beat him and his class alone

@pentney @sanae there are leaked text messages of people texting him saying "Elon you have to fix this" basically as an anti trans thing primarily but anti woke in general. given his estrangement with his trans daughter and emphasis on curtailing the Left I think i think there's some intention. I also think his ego plays into it, he probably thought he could also keep a successful business doing it but obviously that's not the case

@fern yeah I think there are some experiments for an algorithmic feed in the client but I haven't yet found one I like. you can make lists and stuff etc but in general content discovery is hard

the plus side is that we all can finally get the rare Fern likes

@a3b wait did you also go to Cal in the mid 2010s? I remember at one point getting an assignment switched up with somebody with either the same or very similar last name as you

but to your question, I like fedi more for ideological reasons, I like that there's not a for profit company running it and I like that ActivityPub is an open standard. I think that will help prevent a lot of the abuses Musk was able to do on the Twitter platform

that being said, I think UI/UX matters a lot and bsky has a better one, with a good algorithmic feed and a little cleaner of an app. fedi's decentralization also means there's a bunch of different clients with slightly different feature sets, which can be hard to navigate

time will tell which one I spend time on more, but it'll probably be both
