Almost nothing grinds my gears like seeing [insert random tech component here] named [random woman’s name].

  1. It anthropomorphises something that doesn’t have feelings and can never love its authors back.

  1. It’s sexist.

  1. Worst of all, naming something that is not a person something like Jenny, Elisa, Alexa, etc doesn’t tell you anything about what the thing IS or DOES.

A good component name (or research prototype name) should be descriptive, should not be overly punny, and shouldn’t other or denigrate a person or group of people. If you can look at the name and get an idea of what the thing is and does, it’s a good name.
