At Starbucks this morning and the barista was having anxiety dreams all last night. Must be something in the air because my dreams were awful as well!

I seriously forgot today was a work day but (thankfully? I guess) was already working because I wanted to play around with a few maintenance things. Um, also, don't work on days off! (But as it turns out, it wasn't anyway! haha)

What little trick or command did you learn later in your career that continues to bring you joy?
Mine is cherry picking which I find ENDLESSLY useful: git checkout origin/foo -- very/specific/file

Such an insanely quiet work day. The last official work day of the year at Adobe and basically everyone took it off. Time to open a bunch of January 1st PRs!

I'm tentatively coming back to myself. Wanting to share again what I'm trying and learning. I hope to share more in the new year with blog posts, code pens, maybe even some vlogs! Expect my usual CSS in web components explorations but also some Storybook learnings and thoughts about the practical use of tokens in web code. (2/2)

Enjoying a rare quiet morning with coffee, puppy snuggles, and a documentary.
Thinking about my professional identity lately. I stepped back in the last few years for a mix of reasons that I'm sure most can relate to: young children, anxiety, and a conflict that left me questioning my abilities and values. (1/2)

I think the CSS feature I'm most excited to have full browser coverage is style queries. It unlocks theming and style variations with only a custom property value that inherits naturally through shadow dom(s). And no JS or mutation observers needed!

It's official; I'm now mom to a 5- and 7-year-old! The era of "going to the bathroom with the door closed" has returned. Long may it reign!

We recently hired three to our little crew of two (plus a consistent group of about three contractors) and I can't get over how productive and happy things have been! Thanks @patrickfulton for leading a positive hiring process with such a great outcome.

Noticed I've been in the CSS Working Group now for about four and a half years. I don't think I've ever been in a group quite so long and contributed quite so little. 😅
❤️ I have learned so much from the experience and am grateful for the continued opportunity.

Are there any good YouTube series or one-off videos talking through browser implementations? I really want to dig into how the web components spec are implemented but would prefer a guided tour to blindly reading code.

"Web components are a great tool for implementing design systems at scale. Their natural extensibility and controlled customizations make them ideally suited for use in a wide array of environments. They can be as small as a single button or as big as an application. A great design system should offer guidance without being too restrictive, to allow for customization while setting up guardrails supporting consistency, accessibility, and usability." 2/3
